I flashed the x800pro vivo with the agp gigabyte x800pro version.
It set the card to 520/560 and gave me overdrive and all the x800xt pe goodies.
The card will not unlock the 4 pipes so it s 12 pie x800pro running at pe speeds.
Top speeds for the card are 609/609.
    Using silencer 4.

It only works on R9800s that have the R360 core. Try it on a R350 core and you will run into all sorts of fun artifacts.

no it didn't, it was just mildly overclocked.
Many 9800pro had a 9800xt core (r360), but were flashed with the 9800pro BIOS to remove the features.

In fact, i would imagine most modern 9800 pro had a r360 core, but with less RAM.

What changes were made from the x800 to x850? I know with the 9800 pro -> xt, it was just a few shaders and that was it. Nothing major.

I really don't think it will work

Unless your X800XT PE tops out at X850XT PE clocks...
In short, both AMD and NVIDIA discovered that their next-generation graphics cards are superior to each others' last-generation graphics cards.

Not XT, or 9800, but 9700pro. The R9500 uses the same chip so the bios is compatable. That was the old way to bet around the clock lock on the R9500. You could then switch a resistor around and get 8 pipes out of the core.

You couldn't do anything about the memory bus though, it would always be the same width, either 128 bits or 256 bits, and it can't be changed.

A friend of mine flashed his 9500 to 9800 bios, but it artifacted pretty bad.

And afaik, the x800xt will NOT flash to x850xt.

tried flashing a 9800xt bios (modified clocks) to my r300 once, didnt go so well. Took about 3 minutes get a screen and then there was a bunch of corruption.

9800 could possibly work since 9500/9700/9800/9800xt all share the same basic core, just a few changes each revision.

x800 to x850 might work, but i'm not gonna be the first to try it
