    Building my First AMD System

    Hi there everyone,

First of all I want to thank this site and all of you for producing an invaluable resource to the work of overclocking I've learn't so much lurking on this site.

    Anyway my New System

    MOBO: DFI nF4 Ultra
    RAM: OCZ VX
    PSU: OCZ PowerStream 520w
    VIDEO Leadtek PX6600 GT eXtreme
    HDD: WD 74G Raptor
COOLING XP-120 (hey this is my first real rig when I get cash end year then its FX-57/59 + Phase Change for me!)

CASE: Antec Super LanBoy (Waiting for the P180 to come out!)

    CPU: ?????

This is the question. Do I go 3200 or 3500 Winnie? I'm hoping my VX will go 250-260 FSB. Will the 3500 be overkill with 11x Multi on air (please note I live in Australia. My room is often 28+ Degrees Celcius 2-3 months a year and 25-28 for at least 3 months).

OR is the $100 (AUD) extra worth it for the 3500+ just to be safe?

Any other tips out for me?

Thanks Heaps for the help guys,

    Mikesta

I would drop the VX, get some TCCD, and get a 3200+. a 3200+ @ 2.7-2.8 with ram @ 270-280 is sweet setup.

I would keep the VX, the DFI has more than enough VDimm to get the most out of them. As for the processor, I'd go with the 3500+ simply because it has a few more multipliers to work with than the 3200+.

If you're on a budget just stick with the 3200+ since it's only 1-300~average more mhz you're going to yeild with the 3500+ or so. I agree with B5I8 and stick with the VX and run low timings with that DFI

    @ B5I8 and Idleuser.

Yeah I always thought that I should stick with VX since a 3200+ or 3500+ will go between 2.5-2.6 (2.7 if really lucky) on air so I may as well do that wil 2-2-2-7 timings (e.g 260x10) rather then the loser stuff.

Reason I guess I asked is if getting a 3500+ will significantly increase the chance of a higher overclock and if it is worth the cost. I'm worried that the 3500+ would be overkill and that 3200+ would be likely to achieve the same results on FSB260 with Xp-120 cooling solution.

I will probably upgrade to the venice core (rumoured 3700+ 2.2 512K L2 Cache) after its been out for a little while anyway so might save $100 for that.

BTW anybody experienced in using the Super Lanboy for their systems? Will it provide a decent amount of space for components?

Anyway thanks heaps for the responses guys
