Problem with my p4 system :(

I have a new Dell with a p4 and the system is working very sluggish when i'm running programs. Say for example if i'm running limewire or gamespy it uses 99% of my cpu up and it makes it even hard for me to move my mouse, or type this right now . My current specs are as follows...
    P4 550
    2x512 ddr2 dual channel
    radeon x800 xt pci-e
    2x74gb raptors raid 0
    soundblaster audigy2 ex
    and so on...

With these specs and hyperthreading enabled I shouldn't be having these problems. Any got any ideas?

Just a stab in the dark here, but do you have your display drivers installed? Windows runs a little bit slow whenever they're not installed.

Try running a spyware check and get a firewall set up if you don't have one already.

Those are the only two things I can think of, hope this helps!

I know this sounds low, but since you bought a Dell, maybe have them help you? Call their tech support and see if you can beat an answer out of them.

Worth a shot, since you paid for their support, might as well get something out of it.
