Thumbs up Another LV Xeon deal.

Just received an email from "the eBay guy" and he has happened upon 20 2.4GHz LV Xeons. sSpec is SL74T which means they are D1 stepping and have a stock core voltage of 1.3v. These chips should theoretically overclock better than the 1.6GHz LV Xeons... but it has NOT been proven(yet).

He's giving US first shot at them before he lists them on eBay. (thanks again Gabriel!!!)

TWO for $200 plus $10 shipping. PM me for details of you are interested.

BTW, he's sending me a pair to test so I should know later this week what kind of results you should get from them. I had a set of 2.4GHz LV Xeons in the past that were good to 3.3GHz... but I'm not sure those were D1s.

you mean with 200$/p(ai)r ? i dont think everybody (who isnt from an englisch speaking land) understands this.
lets talk aboud the xeons. the cpu has an multi of 24x if i remember correct. this would mean, 24x133=3190; 20x166 = 3320; 16x200= 3200.... (i only choose possible clocks... dont think, that 24x166 could be possible on air or water) but also, this would be an great overclock...

Point well taken about the /pr thing. I changed it to "TWO for $200 plus $10 shipping" instead.

The sSpec page says "533MHz Bus" so I'm assuming 18x133=2400MHz. 18x200=3.6GHz so this definitely has some possibilities with the right cooling.

oh, didn't looked for the specs... 18x166 isn't to bad either! 2* 3ghz for 200$ is really good.
little offtopic-question: has your "dealer" also normal cheap p4-cpus with hyper-threading? i search for a small upgrade for my p4a 26x100. then i could fold without to much heat... a p4c @ 2,4/2,6/2,8 should be fine!

I know the M0 2.4GHz LVs are good for ~3.2GHz at default voltage, and 3.5-3.6GHz with 1.6v. Don't know how these 2.4 D1s would do, though. My guess is not much better than the 1.6 D1s, but who knows.

He's not my dealer, just someone I've gotten to know because of these LV Xeons.

You can check out his auctions, he sells under Lapcompute.

That's my gut feeling too. The 2.4GHz chips I had went to 3.3GHz but I no longer have them... and I can't remember what stepping they were.

He's sending a couple for testing so I'll report back later in the week.

How loud are these badboys at 3.0. Are there any ways of keeping them silent besides w/c?

Depends on how high they'll clock at 1.3v.

The D1 1.6s are good for ~2.7-2.8GHz at default volts, so these may be good for 2.9-3.0GHz.

If so, IWTs with quiet 80mm fans using an adapter should work well. This probably wouldn't be enough to keep them cool at high volts, though.

that 99$ deal is SOOOOO tempting goddammit....

I wish my money would come in someones ows me :s (would be enough to cover the CPU's)

    mmmm, damdamdam

Eversince I read the Xeon thread (the 99$ thing) I've been turning every stone to get the money available for them Xeons

Gabriel is the one to thank. He's being extremely cool about everything and has said he may even give D2OL a try.

I can't wait to try these 2.4GHz LV chips... if they run at least 3.0-3.2GHz@1.3v then this might be the way to go for those who HATE fan noise. Like fr0stedflakes said, you can just put an 80mm adapter on the IWT and then use a nice quiet 80mm fan.

Crap! My rig is down. I repeat my rig is down. My crunching will be severely hurt. Hope to get it back up tomorrow.
I'm really thinking about the 2.4's for my wifes computer. Make that a real D2OL monster. Have to find the money somehow.

The way it sounds these won't go too much higher than the 1.6's... I'll have to wait and see your results

Jeff, have you ever tried the Xeons that run @ 800fsb. I'm building my dad a new comp, because his is staring to show its age, plus I'll have it work in my favor. I'm thinking I'll just set up a dual Xeon rig for him

But it still requires registered RAM... I think.

800FSB Xeons use the Nocona core (90nm, x86-64bit instructions, etc.).

They're supposed to overclock very well. I thought I read somewhere that most, if not all, Nocona Xeons are the E0 stepping, which has been overclocking fairly consistently to 4.0GHz+ on air.

But you have to keep in mind that Noconas will be slower than a similarly clocked Prestonia Xeon (due to their longer pipeline). So a 4.0GHz Nocona would probably be equivalent to a 3.8-3.9GHz Prestonia. I think the extra cache helps to make up for the performance lost through the pipeline.

Also, you'll need an NCCH-DL or Iwill DH-800, as the PC-DL does not officially support Nocona processors. There is a trick where you can flash the PC-DL with the DH-800 BIOS, but it's not an ideal solution. There are many bugs that still need to be worked out.

It doesnt require registered or ECC ram. Works with plain old unbuffered dimms!!

    Pair of 240's for $197 each.. http://labs.anandtech.com/redirect.php?link_id=3279

    Pair of 242's for $201 each.. http://labs.anandtech.com/redirect.php?link_id=1452

Bit more expensive than a LV Xeon setup, but hey.. its cheaper comparred to what it would cost for an ECC/Registered setup really..

Which, might I note, do operate significantly faster than ECC/buffered RAM, for the obvious reasons. But for most people (other than those in these fora), the lack of parity in the RAM would be considered a _dis_advantage.

Wait... Is there any list for the Opterons? I have no clue how fast the 240's are.
