    zippy-6701 psu

just ordered one of these and had a few questions for those that own it. common sense dictates that i'd ask these questions before buying it, but common sense also dictates that i shouldn't risk damaging a $1000 processor by overclocking it.

    anyway,

    a) how loud is the psu? compare it to a sanyo denki at full blast if possible as that's what i have and find it about the limit of my tolerability. also, how hard would it be to add a fan controller to the psu's fan and would do this mod void the warranty?

    b) what kind of connectors does it come with, i.e. how many sata plugs, how many pci-e plugs, 24pin or 20pin?

    c) how much longer is it than an ocz520, my ocz is already too big to fit inside a lian li v1000 but hangs out of the case a bit. will this zippy fit in at least 2/3 of the way?

    a) Loud as in 80mm tornado.
    b) Depends, they can include SATA if you wish (granted you asked zippy) 24 pin or 20 pin. Either choice will come with both 4 pin and 8pin proc connector.
    c) From regular PSU to OCZ 520 was a jump in size right? About same jump in size from OCZ 520 to zippy
I suggest you take the rivet out of PC-V1000 (which I had at one point) for HDD section. You will also have to take out one of HDD bay rivets most likely for easy fit.
I forget how you put your vapo on this case any pic?

yea, its Loud.. they may have served better for 2 80mm fans at lower rpm.
its long too. its nearly 9" long, about 4" longer then normal psu's.

    thanks guys

i remember hating the sound of a 80mm tornado, gah. i'll see just how low it is, but if it's anywhere near a tornado, it's going back. i ordered it from newegg and didn't see any options for adding the sata connectors. i currently have my ocz hanging out of the case about 2/3, it's stable and won't fall off because of the tension from the cables. i don't mind if the zippy hangs out of the case either.

pics of the vapo installation in my case are here:

you would have gotten the options if you ordered from Zippy Direct J ment.

the psu is easy to open, and you could do a fan mod if needed.

Which I have done (fan speed mod) and it is in line with low speed 120mm fan or something like that. To help airflow, I put top slow 120mm fan as intake right in front of zippy instead of usual exhaust to give it as fresh air as possible. Even under full load, air coming out is typically cooler than many PSU's I've played with under similar or lesser load. (Antec True 550, Enermax 660W, OCZ 520W, Ultra X-connect 500w, etc) (I think Seasonic was probably around same temp but that thing is Super efficient low power PSU unit :P)

    thanks again

i'm going to ask you how you modded the fan jinu, i've never done and soldering etc but i don't think it'll be that hard.

It isn't hard. You just splice fan wire and connect it to your choice of fan controller :P
    Should have pic somewhere...

zippy came today. thankfully enough, the fan noise isn't that bad at all. i'd compare the sound of the fan more to a 120mm sanyo denki at 3/4 speed with a slight whine, than a 80mm tornado. it's definitely tolerable for me and i don't think i'll be modding the fan. ordered mine from newegg, comes with a 24pin plug, plenty of molexes (much more than the ocz), 4 sata plugs and no sleeving or pci-e adapters. it's large, but not that much larger than my ocz. it hangs out of my case, a lian li v1000 with odd case design so that many newer psu's cannot fit inside the case because of a divider separating the psu from hd section of the case.

system draw from my apc smart-ups 1500 rose from 23% load to 30% load with the same components installed. i'm wondering if this is an indication that my ocz520 wasn't sufficient for my power needs, or if the extra 7% is just due to the more powerful psu.

i noticed my system stability is much better with the new psu. i'm able to pass 32m superpi whereas i was freezing before. i'm still not able to reach my previous oc on the fx, i'm thinking maybe the board is dying, hopefully i'll get a dfi nf4 soon.

weird things i noticed is that my gpu temp seems to have dropped 5 degrees. this is possibly because the pump in my wc setup is getting enough power. i'm wondering if it's also possible that the 6800gt wasn't getting enough power with the ocz affecting the temperature readout? i'm not sure.

i'm going to hold off finding a new overclock until the new dfi board comes.

thanks dissolved. we should start a zippy club, dumo & jinu can be the co-presidents as they were the 1st converts. i need to thank both of them for bringing the zippy to my attention.

yea, i have bad luck, i think my neo2 killed my winnie so i bought a GB and cpu still didnt work.

been trying to build a decent system for 2 months, but everything seems to have issues..

so im on a hella slow 2.4ghz amd shuttle.. 2.4ghz is fast sure, but at 200fsb 3338 it lags a bit
