amd 64 oc VS pentium 4 oc

hey guys ive just bee looking around and noticed that generally the p4 chips can get an oc of around double the original speed with appropriate cooling, however i have only seen amd 64's at 2.2 ghz going for 2.4 ghz how come?

AMD and Intel are entirely different architectures and chips, so the comparison of pure Mhz is not applicable. Kind of like how XT's are 520 Mhz and 420 Mhz Ultras are on par with them. You simply can't compare Intel and AMD in terms of Mhz only.

My 2.6 Ghz FX-53 surpasses my friends 4.1 Ghz in gaming benchmarks (640x480, lowest settings etc). They just aren't comparable directly.

The amd 64 has an advantage in games due to its 64 bit architecture. Thats why they are on par with P4's at 4ghz. As far as regular Athlon XP's, I'm not sure why they dont clock like intels. Made differently or something.

Actually ~2.7ghz is pretty common on A64s now. FX-55s on phasechange can hit clocks in excess of 3.2ghz or more. Getting a 100% OC on Intel is near impossible. A 2.4a with LN2 might be able to do it and run superPi 1M or something...

I dont know if its possible to do a 100% overclock. Something would have to limit you, unless like afireinside said you use a low P4 with a board that has alot of adjustments, but you would need a 4stage from chilly or something

it seems that intel do reach a higher % overclock. fugger's 6.2ghz 3.6ghz processor is a higher percentage, than the 3.8ghz 2.6ghzfx55.

those i think are the highest respective overclocks for both the top of the line intel and amd.

AMD64's 64-bit architecture doesn't have anything to do with it's performance being on par with "P4's at 4ghz" in gaming. It benefits from it's integrated memory controller, low memory latency, hypertransport, shorter pipelines, new instruction sets.
My scores are too outdated now...

the advantaage is not 64bit architecture is the shorter pipelines and ondie memory controller
    64bit isnt mainstream yet

    And which is faster - an FX-55 @ 3.8 or P4 @ 6.2? I am not so sure

25Mhz away from a 100% overclock However we did succeed 100% overclock but not yet capable to run Superpi8M benchmark at 5600Mhz.

How can you compare p4 speeds vs A64? I have a A64 NC@ 2400 mhz and a prescot @ 4.0Ghz .. In windows the prescot seems faster.. But in games?! Can't compare them now.. one of them is placed in my MCE

Run all possible benchmarks Do some mp3- and .rar packing and unpacking, run multiple tests at the same time, run all possible gametests of the games you play, do some Sandra testing and run all the 3dMark's, calculate how much do the results differ in each program in percentages and after that you have to compare which one had a bigger total lead. Then you have a subjective image which one is better at the things you do with your computer. Doesn't necessarily mean the other one is better/faster. For example, you can take a dragster car that runs a quarter mile in just 7 seconds and a Nissan Skyline that takes 12 seconds. Put the on a track with bends and the dragster is totally left behind.
To integrate this theory to computers, you should do a gametest with A64 and Intel so that you only play the game and close all other applications, and the next run with your regular Antivirus-software, DC++ or torrent whatever downloading stuff etc. in the background.
