Unhappy Start up Problem with K8N Neo2 @5HT please help :(

    Hi there,

Im trying for 3 weeks now to find a solution to my problem with my K8N Neo2 board, tried everything I could think off , but still no luck.

My board doest post at default setting 5xHT.
If I do a bios reset , it boots and it is stable for hours, I can install and play whatever I want.
But after shutdown I get the same problem. I have to do a bios reset again to start... and so on.

I alreay bought a new PSU, and tried to have only Board/VGA/RAM installed just to see if thats a power issue. But that didnt help.
And since I can play any 3d game under XP for hours I dont think this is a PSU issue anyway.

I changed my ram setting to cl3 but no luck with that either.
tried diefferent bios updates, but still nothing

The only think that worked for me was to set the HT in Bios @4x.

After that I get no boot problems anymore.
    My questions are:

1)Is there any connection to RAM and HT, the only think I didnt change in my configuration sofar is my DDR RAM.

2)Could this be a board issue? should I rma it?

3)What kind of impact does this HT has to my system, what do I loose from power?

Of course I didnt even try to o/c .
Please guys tell me what you think, as I run out of ideas.
    Thanx in advance

    Not a lot.

I see in your sig "audigy".
Some have probs with these on this board, so try it without it.

There are masses of things you can try before RMA.
Thinking along the lines of http://www.memtest86.com/

Might be worth trying it with a single stick in the first green slot, and seeing what happens @ HTT 5.
Be warned if using a Beta BIOS and changing HTT tho. DONT use the Enter key > sub menu. Use either + and - or PGUP PGDN.

Also look here (lots of tips put together)

I tried with no Audigy, unfortunately nothing changed.
Still if HT is set to 5 board will post only after bios reset.
Setting HT to 4x, everything works fine

I had to RMA my board. Sounds like the exact same problem. There were tons of threads on the MSI Forums about this a month ago and they were trying to pin it on it the Power Supplies. We all changed ours out and that didn't help. Getting the motherboard RMA'd fixed the problem.

RMA is when you sending something back to your vendor for replacement or fix

    RMA= return material authorization

If HTT had mattered i would be with you here. Our good friend and overclocker Dagdalis tested this and it came out that a low HTT was better in many if not most apps.
Also the results are negligeble at best.

Just run with HTT 4x!There is no or only a very little loss of performance if running on 800 MHz instead of 1000 MHz,i think.if you run benchmarks with 800 MHz and 1000 MHz you can see the difference,it should be very little. If you run fine with 4x,just run,you dont have more work with RMA,testing and so on.

yeah the difference in between 5x and 4x is very small....even 3x doesn't do much

I made some tests with 4xHTT and 5xHTT, got almost same results.
Is there any relation between HTT and Ram?
I mean could this be a RAM issue?

Heh - It sure could - it could be a lot of things. I tried different RAM, different Power Supply, etc. Before I finally RMA'ed the mobo.

MSI said If I want to rma it I have to send it to the place I bought it at, and this could take up to 4 weeks
so I didnt RMA it yet, as it runs stable if HTT is set to 4x.
