What does FX stand for in AMD FX-series ?

I was looking on Discovery today, it was a program about cars.
I heard the word FX there, Factory eXperimental.

hmm, would this be it ?

    anybody knows ?

I think it means nothing, just sounds like "effects" and maybe sounds cool. That's it. Of course I could be very wrong here.

    No.

I think it's more of a marketing thing. You see, acronyms always hide a complex and very technical description of something, especially when used with computer technology. Therefore, for a product to truly be highly technologically advanced, it must be named with an acronym. Case in point: Microsoft Windows XP, AMD Athlon 64 FX, DFI LanpartyUT.

The FX, much like the GeForce series of videocards, is to indicate "effects"

The FX line is promoted as the cinematic computer experience, and is supposed to be used for high end video editing and the such to create great "FX"

I am unsure of ATi's XT, besides that it denotes the highest end of their cards(which has now been superseeded by platinum editions*PE*)

and Lanparty *UT* is for Ultraviolet Technology (correct me if I am wrong here)
    Let the OC'ing begin!
