My pleasure CamDog. I just got my A64 setup last week. I bit the bullet this entire time and stuck with my XP cpu/mobo this entire time waiting for S939 to come out. Overclocking the 64 is a lot more indepth than OC'ing the XP, for sure.

Reading this excellent forum and sitting back, relaxing, and watching the pro's be my guinea pig this time around was especially nice. If anyone remembers (or cares) I was one of the guinea pigs when the original AthlonXP was released (along with Oppainter) experimenting with cutting "golden bridges" way back in 2001. I happened to get my XP a week before they were released to the general public. I started a website and posted my results (the website is still up and has not been changed since then, LOL- http://www.oc-athlonxp.com )

also, its prolly mentioned in one of those other threads. but run your raptors on the VIA raid sata ports and not the promise ports if you want to overclock and not loose your install lol.

look between the 4th and 5th pci slot for your revision number, if its a rev1.02 you will need to click the link in my sig and flash to the 1005.020 or 1005.021 beta bios to get a chance at locks. if you have a rev2 just set it to 33/66.

If you increase the "FSB", ie- over 200Mhz, you need to use a HTT divider to return the HTT bus to < or = 1000Mhz. On the A8V, it's slightly confusing. In the bios, 1000Mhz=5, 800Mhz=4, 600Mhz=3, 400Mhz=2, 200Mhz=1. So if you used a "FSB" of 250Mhz, you would need to use the HTT setting of 800Mhz (250x4=1000).
I have a 3500+ and the A8V and run at 249 24\7 and bench at 265fsb and never have changed it from 1000.

    Huh?

What do you mean? I've run 260x11 with 1000 HTT for over a month, lowering it didn't help or hurt it.

I am going to post a couple pictures of my bios, and settings... These memory settings you guys speak of, ie 2-5-2-1t etc, I see nothing like that in my bios.

Also, do you guys think my setup is running to hot? (2 posts up, I posted temprature)

It makes me very nervous, because the first time I messed with my settings, my machine didn't boot, I had to pop the cmos chip out and start at factory settings again. Is that what you guys do when your, errmm, tests don't work out like planned?

    thanks again guys

CamDog- yes, that temp is on the hot side. If you want to overclock- a better heat-sink might be in order. If your machine won't boot due to wrong settings, there is a safety built in- just power off the computer and restart it. if that doesn't work, use the clear cmos CCMOS jumper on the motherboard to reset the bios to default settings. ASUS calls this CLRTC. Go to page 2-18 in your owners manual to find out how to use this.

I don't have time right now, but I will post tomorrow the exact memory timings. The 2-5-2- moniker refers to the most popular settings- I know there are many others in the ASUS bios. I'll post back tomorrow.

check sandra with the locks enabled then check sandra again with the locks disabled. At a sub 220HTT tho. even set to 1000HT you only get 4xldt with the locks enabled on both the 1.02 and rev2 boards.

Flash Asus A8V before Winchester CPU!?

I've just gotten an Asus A8V Deluxe rev. 2.0 board and 3200+ Winchester, and I've heard that you HAVE TO flash the bios before the system will boot with the new CPU!?
Well, I've just tried this (a MS-DOS boot disk + bios file + update tool), but nothing seems to happen?! I just get a blank screen! I've also tried to press ALT+F2, but that doesnt help!

Can anyone help me so I can get my system up running?!
