i think this is going to be my last post regarding my kit of 1GB VX.....

i officially announce that one of my sticks has to be damaged i've seen it dying very slowly until my Neo2 finally refused to boot with it actually, it booted but i have "BIOS checksum error" everytime i try to boot with that one stick... the other stick is flying @ DDR520 6-2-2-2.0, though...

unfortunately i made a mistake of removing heatspreaders and i can say - $260 well wasted (sits in the corner and cries)

What did you do?!?!?! Do you have another system you can test the "dead" VX on? Reset your CMOS and see what happens. A dead VX module after just 5 days totally blows, dude.

    EDIT:
Did you notice it starting to "die out" after you removed the heatspreaders? I bet you something else accidentally came off along with it.

early today i had them both running @ DDR512 again... soon after i couldn't do DDR400 anymore....
then i tested both sticks in couple of my other NF2 boards - NF7-S v2 and DFI Infinity... that one stick started to error out on NF2 no matter what timmings and voltage. then i decided to give it one last go in my Neo2 and then i booted but i got that "BIOS checksum error"... i thought i corrupted BIOS so i flashed Neo2's chip in my Infinity, put it back in Neo2 and got same thing... swapped sticks and it booted just fine.... running memtest DDR520 as we speak.... without it's other half, though

well, it sucks.... to be honest with you, that's the only piece of PC hardware that ever died on me...

EDIT: i think i'll try to sell that one good stick somewhere and get another set as soon as they became available again.... unfortunately, it seems like it's the only way out as apparently "no RMA for me"...

EDIT2: actually, those problems started before i got heatspreaders off... i thought that it might be heat issue and then decided to remove heatspreaders.... i examined both sticks very carefully and nothing seems to be missing.... i guess, that was not a good idea

Off topic, but I just noticed that your ICs have OCZ markings on them. Mine are clean and blank - totally void of any marks.

It look like mister OPP has proven that the boards are at fault in teh VX and running dividers. His VX is now running the 166 divider in his NF4 board.

can i buy 2 512mb kits of VX instead of 1 gig and run it in dual channel just like normal 1gig ? or they have to be 1 gig matched pairs?

not really, maybe £5, but they ran out of 1gig kits in UK, only have 512mb VX left, so if i can, I will buy two to make it 1 gig
