    P4 640 @ 283fsb Max ???

    Hey everybody

This i my very first thread.
So you will perhaps find some uncorrect words in this thread.

    hi hi...

    Well...
My problem is, actually my P4 640.
I have installed SP2 for XP, so i could go further than 4300Mhz...

Well.. thats over... now my problem is that.... hmmm... it simply just WONT go further than 283Mhz FSB. (4528Mhz)

    If i go to 284/285... i will get approx 288-318 failures i mem-test...

I have a list of possible ajustments...
    The org. list

    Vcore :1,425
    FSB VTT :1,25
    VDDR :1,8
    DDR VTT: 0,9
    VNB :1,5/1,6 (I don't remember)
    NB 2,5V :2,5

    And my CRAZY list

    Vcore :1,6
    FSB VTT:1,4
    VDDR :1,8
    DDR VTT:0,9
    VNB :2,1
    NB 2,5V :2,8

I got from 915 failures, to the 288 with my crazy volt-ajustments..

I have absolutely no idea, what i could do different.

Anybody who knows what to do ??

At last, you would perhaps like to now my system specs.

    Abit AA8XE Fatil1ty Bios 1,4
    Corsair XMS2 PRO (667Mhz)
    P4 640 (SL7Z8)

The rest is IMO not relevant....

    Hey Capiz,

    Welcome to Xtremesystems

Though its standard fare to post cpuz cpu and memory screenshots along with some sandra shots would be nice too.

The 925XE is known to have fsb limit, but what cooling are u giving it AND what are your memory timings.

As I stated earlier, screenshots help

    Impossible

This board have NOT a FSB limit...

    I doubt it...

There are meny who have gone a lot further than 400FSB...

There are no extra cooling than stock.. allthoug i use Prometeia Mach 2 with R134a gas.
Its very cool... allso when running 283... i think it was about -43/-42 degrees @ load.. !!

Screenshots... somebody need to help me there...

i'll try with the MANAGE attachment button... hi hi..

Hope you can use it !!

looks like you might not be giving enough volts to the ram. 1.8 is kinda of low, i would think. Try a bit higher 2v - 2.2v

    Also cpu-z reports 3.3 vcore :O ouch

4500 seems like quite a bit for R134a prommie... can you pass 283 fsb with 14x or 15x multi?

Well... 1,8 is std... and they are not even running their standard Mhz... here they are only running 283*2 566... normally they should run 337 @ that Volt... right ??

Perkam.... Screenshots wouldnt help at all in this situation...

The problem is your settings, although, you are very close to the limit... Some has got to 400FSB yes, but those are some gurus, plus, they got through many boards...

I didnt play with that motherboard so I dont wanna risk to tell you things I shouldnt... But one thing I know, is try to keep your NB voltage relatively low, only raise it when YOU NEED TO. Like all the voltages.... Overclocking is a VERY long process, you need to try one setting by oen increment each, and checking if there is any improvements over the previous, and then with the optimal; settings you found, check back the voltages/settings that didnt help much previously, and they may help with the new "optimal" settings.... Do not just jump at whatever settings you thik are the best....

Oh, I may wanna add that the AA8XE and AA8XE Fatal1ty arent overclocking the same.... And as CPU's and memories, motherboards will overclock better then others.... In Fact, there will even be a bigger difference between a motherboard and another one that there will be between a CPU and another one....

I dont know about your memory as I'm still at ddr1 but I can run my 640 at 275fsb(4.4G) stable at 1.725Vcore on air .It starts to throttle about 20% when running dual prime95 but will run games about 5C bellow where it starts to throttle.I can also run to 4.5G with clockgen but its not stable and needs 1.8Vcore.

Try a little more Vcore and see if that helps I run 1.65V all the time on air an no problems yet.

This is at 1.72Vcore,I have o.12V droop on this board

    Good luck.

    400fsb's were quite reachable with 925XE - AA8XE

hmmm so theres no fsb limit but its most likely a memory problem or the cpu is maxed?
or a bios bug... have you tried a fsb 5mhz higher than this? sometimes a certain fsb is unstable or wont boot and a few mhz above that it works fine again...

    Hey Capiz.

    Welcome.

GOOD you started memtesting my freind, its alot easy´er yes???

#15 You are correct in taht but You have to remember that they 400+ fsb where reached with very low multi and therfore a low XXX ghz.

So Capiz migth have reached some other boarder.

as i know the limit for the fsb is near 320mhz (shark oc team tests) so this shouldn't be the problem... maybe could just be an unlucky cpu ???

saaya, there IS a FSB limit, just bypassed.... But its very hard to bypass it, and you need some luck too.... The pros dont even see that they bypassed it, its natural for them to go behind the limits.... Plus, he has the Fatal1ty which isnt as OCable then the normal version....

    Heyy...

Well... i think it's a very unwanted cpu... i will try with higher FSB... perhaps it really is a NOT WANTED fsb...

Well... i will try it in the morning... i'm too tired to try it now...

I'll let you know, what result it made.. ;-)

I will try with some lower/looser timings, than they are running now..

Will return with some new information about my little project...
