Help w/ XP-90 and rig cooling

I'm finally assembling my rig tomorrow, and I received my XP-90 w/ Panaflo fan from jab-tech today. Here's the question...

I got this fan to go with it, but I noticed that it only has a fan guard on one side [the 4 plastic lines that block stuff from hitting the fan]. But, in order to make the air flow down on the heatsink, I'm going to have to have the bare side facing upwards, with the guard and fan wire on the heatsink.

Is this safe to do? Or am I retarded for ordering this fan? Any suggestions?

    Thanks ahead of time.

Those are not finger guards they are supports for the fan hub. That would go towards the heatsink. As long as you keep your fingers away from a spinning fan you wont have any problems . No need for a fan grill inside the case IMHO!

FYI thats the only way to do it unless u want the fan suck the air from bottom-up.
and the 4 plastic lines is not for guarding or anything protecting task.
if u put grill or protection things on the fan it will make a buzzing sound.
