    Official Winchester OC Thread!

Alright every other core has a thread. This is the Winchester one ^.^

I've just got hold of the following:

    MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum
    Winchester 3200+
    1GB OCZ PC4400
    Thermalright SLK948U
    Gigabyte X800XT

and i'm using it alongside my samsung spinpoint 80GB SATA 150 and hiper 520W PSU.

Just started OCing this baby today and already i have 2650Mhz gaming stable @~1.63V, with idle temps currently at 32°C and load at around 38°-40° with an 18° sys temp.

What have you guys got? please quote cooling and give screenies, plus any tricks/tips you have for getting this chip to go faster!

Also reccomendations on max Vcore/Vmem, anyone killed one of these yet??

I know saaya already made a Winchester OC thread, but it got lost in the rubble. Probably because the thread was made the day the Winchester was made available, and wasn't stickied.

Nice result shinymod...90nm is looking very good.
    Less is more.

about to get my winchester next week.

What is the safe voltage range for these chips? What is the default voltage on them also?

My 3200 winchester needs almost 1.8 v to get stable at 2.5. It will boot at 2.6 but it won't stay there long. I'm having to run at 2.4 with 1.63 vcore to be stable. I don't think I got a good chip .

At 240 x 10 at 1.63 vcore, it runs 40 C idle and 53 C after several hours of prime using a Thermalright XP90. Temps reported by nVidia system utility on MSI K8N neo2 plat.

2650mhz @ 1.63V was stable enough to game on but would produce superpi errors halfway through 1M, i can boot to 2700 @ 1.7V but it wont get superpi stable even up at 1.8V. i've just tried a superpi at 2650 with 1.68V but it still wont quite make it. I cant wait to get this thing under a prometia... think it'll give me that bit extra to get it to 2750-2800ish stable. just gotta raise the cash first.

by the way... odd quirk with the msi k8n neo2 plat, anyone else found that even after installing the mobo drivers (several times...) windows doesnt let you standby, or turn off automatically after shutdown!? (e.g. no ATX function) it's bizzare...

EDIT: crunchtime, default voltage is 1.4V but mine will run stock at 1.2V quite happily

    Very Nice O/C's

lil off the topic: Will Winchester cores come in retail/PIB versions? I haven't seen any Canadian retailer carrying OEM A64's NC/CH/WC so far

My 3000+ is Prime stable at 2.6Ghz but the 3200+ can only do 2.5Ghz at the same settings. They're watercooled with a full load temp of 53 degrees for both. Paired them with the MSI K8N NEO2 board.

    Here is mine:

A longer than usual stress test

But, Im underwhelmed with the low overclock, on my Epox 9NDA3+. My 939 3000+ is StressCPU stable at 2300MHz (as above) air cooled, but errors at 2340MHz.

**The unusual thing is that, a friends 90nm 3000+ clocks 2450 stable on his Abit board, but that same chip cant achieve even 2300MHz on his 9NDA3+!!!**

    Anyone else have a 9NDA3+?

Just put mine together, getting 9x330 with occasional reboots, 9x320 solid as a rock with a 3000+ on a Mach1 filled with r290.
I am sure this CPU has more left in it, but the damn htt/ldt is holding me back. The only setting it will boot at above 300mhz is 2.5x..... does anyone know of a way to increase the max htt? Would cooling the chipset help, or is there any volt mods I can do?

sounds nice charlie ^.^ will look forward to it.
quality OC mikem! what vcore is that?
in terms of my OCing i discovered today that this board doesnt like TRAS = 11, so i stuck it down to 8 and got 9x285 straight away! then i tried 290fsb and the memory (@2.85V) wouldnt take it... which unfortunately corrupted my windows install before i had a chance to try 10x270 or 10x265 again. i'm re-formatting now though, so i should get a 10x270 run in before work, wish me luck!

I've got 2.4 so far with stock volts and my ram will not go any higher without doing a volt mod. Are there mem dividers on this board cause i sure as hell can't find em. My bh-5 sticks are hating 2.85v only =/

Can people post manufacture dates/stepping of these CPUs so we can see if perhaps the earlier CPUs are not OCing as much as the later revisions?

This is my initial run so far and i can't figure out how to get more volts out of the 3.0 bios that i'm using. If you know chime in so i can put 1.7 to it and see what it'll do. I can post at 2.8ghz and get about halfway into windows then it bombs. With 1.7v maybe i could boot but who knows.

This is on air with an SLK948U and a 68cfm Panflow 92mm. I'm going to put it on my mod'd chilly1 promy here in this weekend. I'd love to get 3ghz on this puppy.
