22K in 2001SE with my Athlon XP

I finally cracked 22 000 in 3DMark2001SE! I've been working at it for the past two days (just got my 9800 Pro (XT) vmodded yesterday).

I'm running a non-vmodded NF7-S, Windows XP SP1 and Omega Drivers based on 4.9 Cats. CPU is H2O cooled and vid card has an SLK-700 and an 80mm blue LED fan strapped to it.

Using Tictac and Codered's NF2Tweak and raising the AGP speed from 66MHz to 74MHz got me the last 100 points. Thanks, guys!

I know 22K isn't that good anymore, but I just wanted to share.

Is your new cooling system working out better for you?

22k is hard on athlon xp, double hard with winxp! Nice 9800xt you got there. I have a slightly slower video card so im gonna need winchester for my own 23k

We hear it every time he posts. Something tells me that even with a Winchester, he'd be card limited, too.

Incredible score for an AXP. Nice work!

the cpu plays a bigger role. sure ill be card limited, im not gonna touch an x800pro/xt if they have similar cpus but I can improve my score bigtime with more cpu power, maybe not quite 30k though.

Cool. Thanks for the encouragement and advice, guys.

What drivers would you recommend, Stang_Man? I may be able to procure a copy of Windows 2000 to play with, too... How much of an increase would Win 2000 get me? Enough to get 23K, maybe?

Perhaps this weekend I can convince my dad to help me volt mod my motherboard. Need FSB... :banana4:

we have very similar gpu clocks so you should be able to use my system as a comparison to get to 23K =)

edit: i ran it with dx 8.1 on xp would i gain a resonable amount of points just going to win2k even though my score is already with 8.1's

youd gain about 500 marks with win2k. If you can get the fsb up and run 2-2-2-11 ram, 23k may be yours

I was gonna mention that but youd tell me to stop and not him? show me some respect sir.
Geforce, r3bOrN and others routinely ask you to stop not because you reccomend Win2k, but because you end up talking more about your own scores than whatever the thread was originally about. In particular, I feel I must address this Winchester cpu that will magically fix your problems and give you first page scores on your 9500 and ti4200 : You do not need a wincheser,....you are already benching in excess of 2.6Ghz (per your sig) with a A64. You have more than enough cpu power for your 9500 or ti4200. Ever wonder how people with a slower or weaker cpu achieve higher scores with the same cards you are using??......Gpu clocks, something you do not have. Too bad you sold your 9800, you could have been in the 450 - 500 mhz range with a volt-mod and good cooling. With a 9500 (even v-modded), you'll be lucky if you get much past 420ish. Come on, your sig says you nearly reached 21k with only 350mhz gpu. That is a pretty good score with fairly low clock speeds......you need more mhz.
So, in summary; Quit talking about what you COULD do with some magical piece of hardware(on someone else's thread), get out there and v-mod your card and go bench. Actually achieve a new higher score and maybe then somebody will be interested.
To the Mods: Sorry for this O/T rant. It probably could have been handled in a PM. This keeps coming up in many threads and I wanted to address it.

First off, congrats on 22K, it's not easy on AXP + 9800 However, you've got a lot left in there at those clocks. Here is what I'd recommend for best score: Win2K, DX8.1, Omega 8.07 (haven't tried CAT 4.10). The Omega 8.07's are great drivers That would help that score heaps IMO and you'd be well on your way toward 23K.

Anyways, congrats on that score m8 GL too!

**edit** Here is my latest score (I have a lil left in there, but I need winter's low ambient to unlock it ): http://service.futuremark.com/compare?2k1=8200957. You can see that even though you have lil better system (230x12 vs. 227x12) I have ya by a lot in Car High and a little in both Lobbies.

Catalyst 3.7's and DX9.0, along with Windows 2k should be about a 300-400 point increase at the same clocks.

try getting your gpu speed up to 500.. that'll help a ton

why would he use dx9 for 3dmark 2k1? obsolete imo, dx8.1 is the way to go? with basically a similar system, i've been faster with 8.1 than 9.x, always (at least in win2k).

hm, another question. what's the omega 8.07's advantage over my beloved modded 3.2 cats (performancewise)?

i benched my system back at the beginning of 04.

the catalyst 3.7 drivers i used worked best with dx9, and were the fastest ones available at the time... i'm not sure if there's been anything faster with 3dmark01 since i haven't benched this system since.

if you can then beat my score

i'm telling you, at the time, that was the fastest driver/dx combination for windows 2000. nothing was faster, i dont care if you say dx8.1 is faster, back in jan/feb 04 nothing beat cat3.7/dx9.0

Easy there killa No, I can't beat your score, I only have a Rev 1.0 9700 Pro. I'm just saying that drivers have matured a lil bit since your 23.3K uber-run I am quite confident that the Omega 8.07's are better than CAT 3.7, I am not so sure about DX though as that seems to vary system to system...however I think that overall 8.1 would be better, though I shant argue about that.

I downloaded the DNA drivers based on the newest 4.10 cats, but now my nature score has gone through the crapper. Every other score is up, but nature dropped 20fps.

I raised the GPU voltage a bit, so I'm going to lower it and run at a known stable speed before I jump to any conclusions. See ya in 15 mins.

EDIT: Ran it again... every game test is at least 1fps better than my 22K run, except nature dropped 20+fps... Anyone have any ideas? I'm dropping the GPU voltage a bit just in case that is screwing with anything. See ya in another 15.

EDIT2: GAAAH! I don't think it has anything to do with GPU voltage. I think these drivers just plain suck in Nature. I'm going to download the 4.10s directly from ATi to test...

EDIT3: Downloaded Omega's version of the drivers just to make sure, because ATi's won't install... Also dl'ed Omega's 3.7-based drivers for some testing. See ya tomorrow. I won't have any more time to bench tonight after I get these drivers sorted.

EDIT4: Finally! I installed Omega's 4.10b drivers and my nature returned to its former glory. I beat my record by 2 points, but look forward to much more tomorrow.

    lol, sorry bout that.

if i could, i'd love to try benching this system again with the omega 8.07's you speak of, but.. that just aint happening, especially while im in AZ.

i had made a huge report comparing drivers/dx combo by hand, i took the fastest 8.1/catalyst combo's and fastest 9.0/catalyst combos, and then from there i mixed them up.. that took a long time.. lol, straight stock benchmarking for a week straight! rofl

    Speaking of drivers...

I have been playing with the Omega drivers based on 4.10b cats and my Nature scores keep sucking... Sometimes reinstalling the drivers cures it, but only temporarily. I am at my wit's end trying to figure this out. Every other game test is 2-5fps better, but Nature has gone down 20-30fps, even with higher vid card clocks! Every other setting is the same. I have double-, triple-, and quadruple-checked everything I can think of.

If you would care to give me any ideas you might have I would be most appreciative.
