I'm sure I read it somewhere here, but can't find it anymore. Can anyone confirm if all new P4 Extreme edition chips are unlocked? I'm off to Akihabara next month and I'm not sure how much english the salesman will speak

Go! Go! Go!!
Rumors are that the retail LGA775 XE chips are unlocked.
I have not purchased a 3.4XE retail and I have not seen one yet on these boards.
Intel 9990XE @ 5.1Ghz
ASUS Rampage VI Extreme Omega
GTX 2080 ti Galax Hall of Fame
64GB Galax Hall of Fame
Intel Optane
Platimax 1245W
Intel 3175X
Asus Dominus Extreme
GRX 1080ti Galax Hall of Fame
96GB Patriot Steel
Intel Optane 900P RAID
As far as I knew...just lower multies...no higher one o'well
Thank's guys. It would be the latest Socket 478 chips I am talking about. I understood that early EE chips were multiplier locked, but the later one's are not and are ES by default?

Lower is good except it costs too friggen much. Oh Geesh eh!Originally Posted by jjcom

Sounds just like a rumor to me. Usually too good to be true.
yeah i know...I'm not sure if its for all chips...maybe just a few...something like an ES maybe....
if intel unlocked these, it certainly would help the appeal of actually buying one, but still they are so damn expensive, that thats what I would focus on changing if they actually wanna sell more of these.
lower the prices to $150 less atleast.
a grand for any piece of computer hardware isn't worth it.
especially when the competition can beat your top chip, at half the cost...
Yes, if they are not unlocked they are of limited value, and not really much use to me at all For some reason I thought Intel had dome something right for a change. *bashes head against wall*
Go! Go! Go!!
Intel and the words "doing something right" don't seem to be on the same sentence very often....
yeah...Fastest EE is a 3.46ghz and the Fastest AMD is @ 2.6ghz. (FX-55). The FX-53 was in the same preoformance area of the 3.46ghz and now amd released a...*faster* processor than Intel.
Only once can I remember this happening...back with the Thunderbird Athlon...
clockspeed comparisons are totally pointless due to completely different manufacturing processes. Intel went the high ghz long pipeline route, amd went the other way.
