    Exclamation Very strange overclock problem

Yesterday I was able to overclock my processor up to 230 before it sarted becoming unstable, and I was getting strange results with cpu-z and pc wizard about what my clock actually was. So I went and set everything back to stock (fsb, voltages) and now i am getting outrageously high clocks reported by cpu-z, intel, and pc wizard (they all report the same thing). Under load my computer fluctuates between 4~5.7ghz, at idle its around 3~3.3ghz. Now, all my temps are staying the same as well, under load its around 50 and idle is around 40C. When I ran superpi (by itself) I got 47 sec, when I ran it with prime95 and atitool's little graphic window (I run these programs together for temp analysis and stability) in the background I got 42 sec for superpi.

    My system is:
    3.0E C0, thermalright xp-120
    ic7-max3
    1gig kingston
    zalman 400b
    x800 pro (bba)

The first pic is when I first noticed the problem after I set everything back to stock clock, the second pic is my comp under full load (I am still doing it, and there is no noticable slow down in my regular computing).

I didnt think those superpi times were any good at all... I was just saying that the more load I put on my computer the faster it goes, up to 6ghz (so far).

I also already have SP2 installed, didnt you see it on the bottom right corner :P ?

haha, I was just wondering if perhaps I should be worried about it or not. I'm not sure where the problem is coming from, because even when it reports 6ghz it still wont go over 50C....

I -believe- that the problem is, something is using CPU resources when you launch these programs.
I often get erratic reports (like mhz going up and down 50 mhz) after first booting the system. But after everything has settled down, things become stable. But i've never seen results in outer space, like -this-.....

Use a third party task manager and make sure that nothing else is grabbing cpu resources. Also, make sure you don't have any unnecessary programs or services loaded at startup. And yes-- Viruses and trojans and adware/spyware can also cause this problem (again: because they are running processes in the background). So make sure you don't have any strange processes running, too.
