I am interested. I have seen some reports that this is better than the XP-120. Would be nice to see a head-to-head comparison of the two.

I doubt it's better--they're exactly the same with the exception of the size, The massive size of the XP-120 would give it a leg up I'd think. And hey I have a XP-120 w/ 120mm Tornado here too The Thermalright XP-90 and 92mm Tornado should be arriving within a day or two. Maybe I can put it off a few days of selling this setup for some testing

Btw, will run tests w/ a 2.4 M0 that has done 3.6/1200fsb on an epox 875 board. I've got a IC7 Max3 on the way, but I'll test with the already proven Epox 4PCA3+.

Thanks Trix definitely post the results of the differences. I'm honestly just thinking of watercooling now, do you also mind try the xp-120 with a 90-100cfm fan.

well i have the 92mm 120cfm tornado but my xp-120 came w/ no brackets or adapters to fit a non-120 fan on there...

so it won't be a truly fair comparison unless i get an adapter which I really don't have the time to wait on or the extra money to pay for it and shipping.

I could ghetto mod it on with some duct tape though

Sorry I meant a 90-100cfm 120mm fan on the xp-120 cause thats pretty much what I have but I wanna know roughly how much difference I would see with a 120mm tornado.

oh ok thought you meant try the same fan on both hehe.

Sure no prob I can do a little math and use my fan controller to operate both fans at ~ the same CFM It allows 50% reductions in stock voltage fed to the fan so taming the 120 tornado to 100CFM shouldn't be a problem my friend.

Been testing an xp-90 on an a64 nc since saturday. Processor previously did over 2.5 gig with a zalman 7000-cu. I have not had a chance to push it yet, but I'll let you guys know how it works out when I do. I'm using a panaflo 69cfm, 92mm fan on the xp-90,....moderate, but tolerable noise.

HAHA first post. Anyway thought you guys might be interested in this. I just received the XP-90. It looks like it is going to fit on my the MSI K8N NEO2. It will definately not fit with the overhang facing toward the AGP slot, blocks that. It does appear that it will fit overhanging the memory slots. It covers up slots 1,2, and maybe three. Will have to look at it again. Unfortunately I am still waiting for my 3500+ to arrive, should be here friday. If the chip sits high enough up, and I think it will then It should be able to fit this board. Right now the little lip on the socket is stopping me from fitting the heatsink into the mount, since the bottom of the heatsink overextends to this area. I will let you know on friday. There should be enough room though to fit the ODZ Booster though in slot 4. Stay tuned, if it does fit this is good news to us owners of this particular Motherboard since the XP-120 is out.

Update. The XP-90 does indeed fit MSI's K8N Neo2. DDR slots 1,2,3 are covered by the heatsink, but it is still possible to pull the ram out and put back in with it installed. DDR Slot 4 is uncovered and allows the use of ODZ DDR Booster if that is your kind of thing. Still installing the OS right now. I have the XP-90 set up with a 92mm Tornado. Good Lord that thing is loud! Anyways hope this helps anyone who is looking for a new heatsink on their Neo2.

OK here we go. All test were done with a 92mm Tornado that was blowing away from the heatsink. The processor is an AMD 3500+ @ 250/10 with 1.6v. Using PCM+ as the thermal paste.

    IDLE@4900RPM: 32.0C
    LOAD@4900RPM: 34.8C
    IDLE@3000RPM: 33.1C
    LOAD@3000RPM: 38.1C
    IDLE@1900RPM: 34.0C
    LOAD@1900RPM 39.5

Just started OC the new chip, might not have to run @ 1.6v so I might be able to get a little bit lower temps, if I play around a little more.

Wow those seem like really good temps. Right now I have a XP-120 with a 93cfm fan. My idle temps on my A64 3000+ @2.5ghz 1.7vcore is 39C. Seems kind of high to me im using PCM+ also. Very impressed by your load temps though. Hmmm dont know what to do. I might watercool.

The system is housed in an Coolermaster Stacker with 1 120mm front intake, 120mm rear exhaust, 2 80mm rear exhausts, 1 80mm top exhaust, and one 300mm crossflow(which is a tubular fan that blows accross the motherboard). Also a NV5 Silencer on the 6800GT(which is really nice). Needless to say the case supports alot of airflow. Case temps are usually 26C idle 29C load. The only problem I have right now is the ODZ booster I'm using gets the adjucent DDR ram hot along with it. I can get up to 38c on heavy loads being that it is also under the cpu heatsink. I really don't know what is acceptable temps for RAM so...maybe it is not a big deal.

wow, 29C case temps and 34C cpu load temps? nice! can you meassure the temps with an extra probe, the onboard temp probes are not very accurate, thx

and please post room temps as well if possible! sounds like an amazing heatsink!

I have 2 Coolermaster Cooldrive 6's that have 4 temperature probes each. So every measurement was with a dedicated probe. I have so many probe's I didn't know what to do with them all. Heres the setup: 1 CPU, 1 GPU, 1 on each raptor, 1 on each of the OCZ 3700EB, 1 on the OCZ Booster, and 1 in the middle of the case. All of these temps are as real as I can get them Room temps about 75F. As I sit here typing the case temp is 25.9C

By the way this is my setup:

    AMD 3500+ @ 250/10 1.65v w/ XP-90@92mmTornado
    MSI K8N Neo 2
    OCZ 3700EB @ 2.5-3-3-8 1T @ 3.2v w/OCZ Booster
    evga 6800gt w/ NV5 Silencer @ 400/1100
    2 74GB Raptors Raid 0
the rest you probably can get from my post. I have yet to really see what I can do with the video card. I cannot get the CPU/memory to go 260/10 haven't tried to see what I can get in between. I had to raise the memory to 3.2v to get were I'm at now. Have really messed around with the timing too much yet. I need to start doing some serious bechmarking still to see were my limits are at. I have found that about 2500RPM's on the Tornado is about all I can stand hearing wise so I leave it at that. The stacker is a great case but it has a big vents on both sides so it cuts out no noise with the case closed. I am probably close to my limit now but, I'll see what I can get in the coming days.

2500RPM is all you can handle Thats the hole point of benchmarking just run it @ 4900 just temp to see your max is and bench get some screenies then back it down for 24/7 use.

been busy lately...have't had a chance to experiment with the xp-90 and 120...hopefully will get some free time do so this week.

But I would definitely reccomend the xp-90 over its big brother...it's so much easier to install. The 120 wouldn't even install on my ic7 max3 after I removed the OTES =\, I can't install it in my case (antec lanboy) without removing the PSU and modding the aluminium fin that holds the PSU in place.

With the XP-90 it fits right in there w/out the hassles.

Finally had a chance to test my XP-90 a little..... My intent was to compare this heatsink to a Zalman 7000a-cu on the same cpu (a64 3000+) and mobo,.....but I ruined that comparison as I removed the IHS from the cpu before I put the XP90 on it. My temps under load dropped by about 6-7c and I have the cpu running 70mhz higher than its previous max overclock(and I thinnk there is more left yet) but I have no way of knowing if it was from the heatsink change or the ihs removal. At least that proves that the XP90 and 120 retension system will work on mobile cores. I removed the weak fan on the Zalman and used the same fan, a panaflo 92mm, 69cfm on both. So far seems to be at least as good as a Zalman when used with similar cfm on both HSFs. More testing needed...

I found my XP90 to run 3 degrees cooler at idle and around 5-7 better loaded than my SP94, and I have not lapped off the nickel base plating yet.
