OCZ 3700 EB or ADATA (Komusa) Hyperam 4200 on AMD 64 ?

Hey guys,

I have a AMD 64 3500 939 Pin with the Gigabyte 939 Motherboard - Nforce 3.

I want 1 GB total ram 2x512.


Price really is not a issue, I know the Komusa ( Hyperam) Adata ram is cheaper and has looser timings, however my question is, say at 250 FSB how noticeable of a diff in performance are those looser timeings compaired with the 3700 EB? Or will going with a higher FSB and lower Multi with the adata be better?

Max FSB I will be running is maybe 270ish or more if I can push it once I get the watercooling setup who knows.

Any other suggestions for ram besides the two I mentioned?

I am just not sure which ones to get, I would like to order them today asap, please respond if you have some insight!

just to point out, temps are rarely if ever needed to know IMHO.

For me, temps go up as i clock higher and whack voltage up, but its easy to tell when a chip is running too hot as it will become unstable well before death point.

Just got the gigabyte myself arrived today and i'll be messing with it over weekend.

IMHO temps aren't needed, but then the latest shipments to uk were delayed by a full two weeks, new rev maybe, not checked yet.


Also EB 3700 tends to be good and mine on nf2 hits 268Mhz, with low timings.

I want to know the temps I dont want to nuke my chip Plus I want to go water, so I would like so way to gauge the temp. I could get a probe, but I dont know where to put the probe on these chips. any idea?

as long as you've got the heatsink attached right, you'll not be able to boot or maintain windows long enough to overheat. If you've not got contact goign properly it will fry to quickly for temp monitors to matter, or mobo has proper protection and again it won't matter.

IF you go water it will be a much lower temp, you can gauge how much better it is purely by seeing your overclock increase.

Its SOOO freaking hard to nuke a chip, i've still only killed one, and thast from a psu going up, just stopped working.

Well, this thread is interesting. I have a gig of A-DATA PC4200 AND a gig of OCZ PC3700EB. My 3700EB had to be RMA'd, but it should be back soon. I also just acquired a VDIMM mod kit. We'll see which memory does better

I'll post some bandwidth scores soon. With these two types of RAM in house, and plenty of voltage and cooling to spare, I think I'm in a good position to show some definitive differences between timings. My Epox 8KDA3J and CPU will have to cooperate though. I don't think with a gig of RAM I'll be able to push the HTT far enough to show off the A-DATA. Might have to resort to a single stick for comparison's sake.

Is the OCZ 3700 Enhanced Latency the same as the Enhanced Bandwidth? I'm looking for the EB at Newegg but they are only listing the EL

Cool - just ordered a gig (2x512). My current Ram is running 233 CAS 2.5-3-3-6 1T. What are the chances that the EB 3500 will do better at 3.0-3.2 volts?

Most eb tends to do at least 250 well at cas 3. At 2.5 you should still be looking at 230-240 with 2.9v. (well at least thats what my 3700 does)

The A-data wont require much voltage, in fact, it usually doesn't like anything much over 3.0v. My sticks of pc4000 Vitesta are nice. Strickly high fsb stuff, the timings stay loose, but I managed 3d stable OCing 290MHz 1:1 with my RAM.

Just make sure you test 3D and not Sandra as that won't really tell us anything...
