    Really odd...

I just got my refurb m7ncg (m-atx nf2 board). I hook it up and set vcore to 2.0 (max) and I notice I'm gettin 2.2vcore.. I turn down voltage and notice an ~.15-.2vcore overvolt.

"Interesting" I say to myself, assuming the board had a pencil vcore mod that the guy who rma'ed it had done and not removed. Anyways, I prime it for awhile at ~.1.55vcore, then I decide that my 92mm Tornado is a bit overkill, so I shut down and swap it for an 80mm panaflo. I start loading windows and the system locks.

"I can't be running that hot at 1.55v 2400mhz" I think. So I go to bios and check my temps. Lo and behold, the overvolting is gone. I'm getting 1.375vcore to my cpu.

Anyone else seen a tornado fan cause a board to overvolt cpu? It's the damnest thing I've ever heard of.

Not sure how or why that hapened to you, I will say I would NOT run my 92mm Tornado from the boards fan bus, I haven't personally done it, but I have read about Fried Fan Bus connectors from doing just that....

    LOL

That's a MSI board isn't it. What a surprise to see that happen to their nForce2 version of the board.

You experienced the vcore issue right. It "suppose" to behave that way. Funny isn't it? Yep, with MSI that is. LOL I set my Vcore at 1.7v in bios and puts out 1.95v. Reboot/Cold boot the system and the Vcore goes down to 1.6v or lower. Raise the Vcore to 2.0v and it puts out 1.8v. This was with my MSI Delta LSR KT600 board. Nope.. no mods were done to this board previously. was brand new.

    yes

it's unpredictable and all depends on the board's mood. The board controls me, not i control the board.

went with the Abit KV7 and works wonders.

The tornade was 4 pin with rpm monitor.

I plugged the rpm monitor in and powered the fan off a molex. I rebooted a few times and It kept the overvolt until I switched out the tornado. I also crashed the system intentionally (Cut power after post before OS load) so I could remove the fan... so it's possible that caused it. Though I can't test it right now... I suspect that the board automatically kicks in a .2v overvolt when set to 2v, and it remains until cmos clear. Since it hasn't been set to 2v since the crash, it isn't overvolting. Seems the only logical explaination to me... or else there is something wierd with the board that increases cpu vcore at very high cpufan RPM readings or Very low cpu temps.

That one sounds good, and yeah, I have my 92mm Tornado set up same way with the molex/RPM sense line, I figured you would already know better but thought I would mention it
