PCI/AGP frequency

Is it better to use a devidor to set the PCI bus to 40MHz, or is it better to use the fixed freqency option to lock it at 40MHz? Would one put less stress on the NB or PLL?

I would think that 33mhz might be better and I would just use the lock.

For the longest time everyone was saying that a higher AGP bus gave better performance. They were also saying that ATI cards didnt work well after 80MHz.

I have never gained anything from an overclocked AGP bus that couldn't be attributed to the overclocked fsb the processor was on. I haven't tried to overclock the AGP bus independently though and I guess that it is possible with the newer chipsets so might be worth a try. From my experience ATI cards don't like anything over 70mhz if you still intend to overclock them. At their stock speeds I have gotten them higher but at 80mhz you are probably reaching to far imo.

Set it to AGP 4x or 2x and you don't usually have that problem

why 4x? Do the increase the cards overclockability? I know theres barly any performance difference between 4x and 8x, but I didnt think it affected anything else so I was gonna take any little performance increase I could get.

If I remember correctly, when I lowered my 9700 to AGP 4x it booted at a higher AGP frequency.

Is there a windows application that will report PCI and AGP bus speeds? Kind of a double-check on whether the locks are working

hmmm i think powerstrip shows the agp speed... but i dont know how it measures the agp speed.
