Question ATI RADEON 9800PRO 128MB to 9800XT mod

    hi there all,
i must confess that i'm a noob in this field of modding/OCing!
now i have an ATI RADEON 9800 PRO R360 core 128MB, with the samsung GC2A chips, now i've tried the XT speeds on my VGA card, & all runs fine without any artifacts or something...
    the questions are:
    >> can i flash my card with an XT BIOS, without doing any volt mods?!
    >> which BIOS to use?!
    >> after that flash of the XT BIOS, will the card be recognized as the XT series, tough it has 128MB, i mean at least the thermal probe/OverDrive?!
    >> which cooling do you suggest?! i'm thinking of: VANTEC IceBerq4 for VPU, & ZALMAN HS for the RAM.

    thanks in advance!

    May I direct you to

    Search function...

And for cooling, why not just slap an SLK-whatever00 on there? Works like a charm.

Volt mods should not be necessary to reach XT speeds. My card can reach XT speeds easily. Definitely upgrade cooling though. The stock heatsink is kinda on the small side.

And welcome to the overclocking world!

The thermal monitioring and overdrive require a specific chip on the pcb to be resisdent if it aint there the drivers wont enable them but you should have no trouble flashing the card to an xt than just match it up with the correct bios.

Well, I think the mod rocks. At equal speeds I am getting noticeably better performance. I can now easily get over 6800 in 3DMark03 when before I was topping out at 6700.

I haven't been able to get the temp monitoring going, either. It shouldn't be too much of a problem if you have a decent heatsink on there.
