Thumbs up Dual PCI-X & Dual CPU On One Mobo! :)

    http://gear.ign.com/articles/515/515363p1.html

Looks quite sexy if I do say so myself. This is the first time I've ever wanted an Alienware bases system since 8th grade.

What do you guys think about it? Maybe they will release them outside of Alienware if the demand is high enough.

Are those Xeons? Those are low-end videocards - that's for sure. TSOP memory gives that away.

getting good cooling on the top one looks like it might be a challenge...

only way i see, is put the 3rd card(that the first 2 are feeding to, on the first(top) slot, and the 1st working card in the 2nd, and the 2nd working card in the last slot, and have no case. thats the only way i see that it could (even possibly) work with high end cooling.

They say they will support dual AMD chips eventually too...so most likely dual opterons.

And of course you'll be able to use any PCI-X cards you like...dual R423's. That'd be sweet!

I think you are confusing PCI-X with PCI-Express...server boards almost always use PCI-X and that is not anything new.
    Windows 7 + SSD:
Mode: AHCI, default Microsoft driver or latest Intel RST
    Defrag: Off
Hibernation: Off (use Sleep mode, recommend a UPS)
Indexing: On (it only indexes a few locations, not your whole system unless you tell it to)
Page File: On (set to the minimum of 16MB if you have a large amount of RAM, disabling not recommended)
    Prefetch: On
Superfetch: On (RAM is always faster than an SSD - use it)
System Restore: Off (with regular backups)
Browser Cache: RAM Only, Disk Cache Off (How to with Chrome)
Documents, Music, Pictures, Videos, Downloads to HDD (Public Libraries too, see above link about junctions)
    UAC: On!

dual graphics sound nice... but i have some doubts it will ever become wide spread, even IF it works fine wich will be hard work.

EnJoY did use the wrong term ... but Alienware is using 2 x PCI-Express

BTW, how do those cpu waterblocks work ? They look connected to each other, but to nothing else ?

EDIT: My eyes be playin tricks on me

Yeah i agree, the drivers to do that would be a nightmare to work out i should imagine. And the draw on your power supply as well? Not going to happen for a while yet i should imagine.

    Yes, I meant PCI-Express...my bad.

Cooling is custom Koolance Exos...not Innovatek. Just look at the CPU300G water blocks, that's Koolance.

The power supply will be a custom 800W-1KW. But we are extreme here aren't we?

And the waterblocks are in series...I image that water is pretty damn hot by the time it reaches the first video card... I don't even want to think about the second. :/

Oh and Alienware is using their own software so that you still only install one driver. They have something worked out. You can be sure this will be quite polished by the time of release in early-late summer.

koolance and innovatek blocks are very similar. very crappy design and poor efficiency. they are just built as cheap as possible so they can make more money, all the reviews ive seen of them show they are really bad blocks, wonder why they chose them.

the water doesnt heat up very fast. the water is usually less than 1°C warmer on the outlet of the block than on the inlet, at least if you have a decent pump.

I wonder what kind of performance increase there will be from running two of the same card...also I wonder if there is any overhead by using this technology to "manage" both cards.
