How to update your cpu to hyperthreading enabled?

Friend swapped a P4 2.6 for a P4 3.0 with hyperthreading, how do you get hyperthreading noticed by the OS without formatting?

In the windows task manager, you'll see 2 windows "CPU Usage History".
    OR :
Right click My Computer \ Properties \ Hardware \ Device Manager \ Processors.
    You'll see 2 cpu's.
