    Thermalright Silver Soul 110

    Introduction

The Silver Soul 110 is from a company that knows how to keep cool. As the name suggests it comes at a total height of 110mm, features 5 heatpipes and is equipped with an 92x25mm 2500RPM fan. Thermalright claims a "Dynamic Thermal Power Capacity" of 90 ~ 200W which I guess means that it is supposed to handle 90W sustained and 200W peak loads. The Thermalright Silver Soul 110 cooler has a recognizable shape: two aluminum towers are connected by five heat pipes and a powerful nickel-plated copper base. One 92mm fan is fixed in the middle. Very convenient clips are used here (by the way, there is an additional pair in the kit). Apart from our test version of the day, it is available in an black version.

Let's use a table to write more detailed information! It is important to note that the reviewed version is nominally compatible with modern Socket LGA 1700. New coolers from Thermalright still do not natively support AM5, but they do sell a seperate mounting kit for AM5.

    Packaging & Contents

Thermalright Silver Soul 110 White comes in a White box with a picture of the cooler itself on the front panel, a list of supported processor sockets and the logo of the company's 20 years of experience in the field of cooling systems for personal computers. In addition, the “AGHP” icon attracts attention - similar icons are found on almost all boxes of Thermalright coolers, and in this case it indicates the use of “anti-gravity” heat pipes in the cooler, that is, pipes whose efficiency does not change depending on the orientation cooler in space.

On the sides of the box are the technical characteristics of the radiator and fan.

Features of each part of the product.

The packaging is extremely secure. Inside, a polyethylene foam shell with compartments is inserted into the cardboard box, where the radiator with a fan is tightly fixed, sealed in a transparent plastic bag.

Assembly instructions are located in the accessories box.

The cooler package includes two backplates for Intel platforms with mounting kits, a set of screws, bushings and washers, as well as four additional wire brackets for installing fans. In addition to all of the above, the cooler comes with a separate syringe of Thermalright TF7 thermal paste with a declared thermal conductivity of 12.8 W/m°K (for comparison, the Arctic MX-4 has a thermal conductivity of 8.5 W/m°K).

    A Closer Look

Structurally, the cooler belongs to the tower type, or rather, to the two-tower type, when a fan is installed between the two sections of the radiator, which works to cool both sections simultaneously.

It is clearly seen that the height of the cooler really does not exceed 110 mm. As for its mass, it is 400 grams.

Thanks to the radical white color, the cooling system looks stylish.

Each section of the radiator consists of 38 aluminum plates 0.40 mm thick, placed on heat pipes with an interfin spacing of 1.6 mm. Moreover, the contact of plates with heat pipes is implemented in the most efficient way - soldering.

There is a plastic plaque on the top of the towers.

Each section of the heatsink is pierced by five white-painted copper heatpipes. The tubes are placed strictly in the center of the longitudinal axis of the sections. The bending of the tubes is moderate. The bottom is designed with C1100 pure copper nickel plating, which provides excellent thermal conductivity. In this nickel-plated copper plate, the bases of the tubes are laid in grooves close to each other and soldered. The tube-to-base mating quality is very high, and the minimum plate thickness under the tubes is 2.0 mm. The dimensions of the contact surface of the base are 41 × 33 mm, and the quality of its processing does not cause any complaints.

The Thermalright Silver Soul 110 White is equipped with a single 92 x 92 x 26mm fan with a five-blade impeller. The Thermalright's fan model is TL-B9W PWM.

The speed of rotation of the impeller is controlled automatically by pulse-width modulation (PWM) up to 2500 rpm with a tolerance of 10%. According to its specifications, the maximum airflow can reach 54 CFM, the static pressure is 2.24 mm H2O, and the noise level is 23 dBA. The length of the standard cooler fan cable is 290 mm.

On the fan stator, you can find the type of bearing - S-FDB (improved fluid dynamic bearing), but its standard service life is not given in the cooler's characteristics.

For greater compactness, the corners of the fan frame are cut off, and soft silicone corners are inserted into these cuts. It is them who act as vibration dampers and help reduce noise levels.

    Installation Process & Finished Looks

Thermalright Silver Soul 110 White is compatible with AMD Socket AM4 and Intel LGA115x/1200/1700/2066/2011(v3) processors. In other words, this is a fully universal cooler. The installation procedure is described step by step in the complete instructions, but even without it, the process is intuitive and extremely simple. We position the four washers on the fixing holes. Then we have to go through the counter plate and the motherboard using the four screws. After flipping the motherboard, we need to position the four spacers.

The two stirrups are positioned on the spacers, they are held by screws. After applying the thermal paste, we can proceed to mount the heatsink. The fastening system uses helical springs which exert perfectly controlled contact pressure. The system simply makes it possible to automatically ensure the necessary pressure without worrying about the level of tightening. This system fights against excessive tightening which is then simply impossible. All that remains is to place the fan and connect the 4 PWM pin.

Thermalright Silver Soul 110 does not interfere with RAM modules (neither high nor low), as well as near the processor elements on the motherboard, because this cooler is quite compact.

In addition, we already mentioned that the only fan is installed in the center, and not on the front side.

The height of the cooler installed on the processor and board does not exceed 110mm. There is no backlight. Inside the case Silver Soul 110 White looks very strict and serious. However, nothing prevents the user from installing a backlit fan between the sections, if he wants.

    Performance

The following system was used to test the cooler:
    – Processor: Intel i9 9900K @ 5GHz
    – Motherboard: ASRock Z390 Phantom Gaming X
    – RAM: Ballistix Tactical Tracer 16GB DDR4 @ 2666MHz
    – GPU: MSI GeForce RTX 2070 Super Gaming X Trio
    – SSD: Crucial MX500
    – HDD: WD 1 TB Blue
    – PSU: Seasonic Snow Silent 750W Platinum
    – Case: Phanteks Enthoo Luxe White
    – Thermal compound: Noctua NT-H2

Based on the design and dimensions, it would be most correct to compare the efficiency of the Thermalright Silver Soul 110 White with same sized coolers. Software used for testing the cooler:

    – AIDA64 Extreme Version: 6.32.5600
    – Intel Burn Test v2.54
    – Prime95 29.1

The cooler was tested with the CPU at the default turbo frequency of 4.9 GHz and overclocked to 5 GHz with a core voltage of 1.261 V. Also, the included fans have been used at their maximum speed. The room temperature was approximately 26°C (78°F), with 2°C margin of error. The idle test consists of the CPU sitting idle at the desktop for 30 minutes, the temperature was measured at the end of the test.
The settings of the software used are the following:
Intel Burn Test v2.54 – Stress level: Maximum
    Prime95 29.1- small FFT
AIDA64 Extreme Version – FPU Benchmark & Temperature monitoring.
Each test was conducted for 40 minutes.

The overall cooling performance is very good when taking into account the small size of the heatsink and the used 92mm fan. While no heavy overclocking should be attempted with this CPU cooler, the Thermalright Silver Soul 110 was capable of keeping an i9 9900K CPU under control.

Even when overclocked, the cooler was virtually silent, only after a good few minutes at maximum CPU load did it kick up some noise and even then it was pretty average compared to many rival coolers.

    Final Thoughts

Thermalright has been pumping out new coolers almost on a monthly basis. The Thermalright Silver Soul 110 White is a compact 110mm high CPU cooler that deserves the utmost attention when configuring and assembling a mid-range system with processors whose heat dissipation does not exceed 200 watts. The build quality is very good and as usual, it is on the same level as the flagship coolers, by Thermalright. The aluminum made cooling fins are solid, while the heatsink has a solid construction. The clearance offered by the cooler is very good, thanks to the small footprint of the cooler on the CPU socket. In addition, the cooler is fully versatile and comes with a secure mount, as well as thermal paste with high thermal conductivity. Let's add here the impeccable build quality, a completely soldered heatsink and a stylish appearance. Great to see that, and the Silver Soul 110 looks great in White. Perhaps someone will not have enough of the now fashionable backlight, but you need to understand that this cooling system is not for entertainment and decorations.

The Thermalright Silver Soul 110 White twin-tower heatsink performed quite well, and when paired with the Intel Core i9 9900K @ 5GHz, it still showed excellent heat dissipation capabilities. The Thermalright Silver Soul 110 White has no cons at all (for it's size). In retail, it costs less than 50€. And if you have a CPU that delivers less than 200 W (say, 120-150 W), be sure to pay attention to this model. It is efficient, compact (does not interfere with RAM modules and processor elements on the motherboard) and is nominally compatible with Socket LGA 1700.
