    4930k ?

Current gaming rig with this processor is dying. Pretty sure its the motherboard. Can the 4930k work on a NUC size motherboard and case? The chip is still good. Would like to use it as a dedicated cruncher is a small form factor. thought about replacing the mother board but dam they want an arm and a kidney for an old tech motherboard. Nuts. Could limp this one but guess it will die soon. Still using Win7 pro. Thanks.

I would scrap it. The motherboards for 2011 are expensive, especially small ones. That is why the cpus are so cheap used.

Thanks guys. Hate to scrap it but will wait for it to die to get everything out of it.

My 2700k was slowly dying and now it and the motherboard sit in the box, resting in peace. There is a point where it has to spend its remaining life in a box, ashes to ashes, box to box.

Assuming it's from this era, doesn't seem to be any issues on Win 7.

The Phenoms are old and missing modern instruction sets. I would do a 2600 or newer like bearcatrp said. Maybe an APU from the 5k series.
