Upgrade to 12th Gen? 8700k rtx 3090 owner

Hi I currently have an 8700K at 4.7 Ghz and an asus tuf oc RTX 3090 with a PG35vq monitor which is hdr 1000 and 3440x1400 at 200 hz. 32 GB RAM and seasonic x focus 750w psu and like 5 ssds one nvme with games and music etc and some like 7 fans an an nh d15 and a phanteks primoo case.

I like mostly single player games like red dead 2, control, crysis series, gears of war, tomb raider, metro exodus, horizon zero dawn, call of duty you get the idea and like to max them out and maintain lowest about 80 fps to 200. I know I am spoiled. I am looking forward to god of war pc and uncharted series pc. stuff like that

So would it be worth it to upgrade to 12th gen something like a 12700k and re use my ram ddr4 ram its 3200 mhz hyperx or should I just skip it all together and wait for zen 4?

I usually maintain the fps I want i usually never go below 70 I am just itching to upgrade I guess. I am using windows 11 so my question then becomes do I have to reistall or can I just put my os drive in and it will boot along with my game and drives and add them to my game launcher lirbaries? I dont want to reinstall everything but its fine if I have too

another question is my 750w psu enough still or would need like an 850 with a cpu and mobo upgrade. I have no power issues with my current psu can play for hours with my current system

I also have an 8600k gtx 1080ti second system I am willing to sell to upgrade my primary or just sell my 8700k if its worth anything or I can afford it without selling due to my job. I know how bad pc hardware is right i got all this stuff luckily before this happened.

how would system responsiveness be upgrading from a 6 core

Zen 4 wont be out for a while. Zen 3 with 3d v cache is scheduled for January.

Unless you need more cores I would hold out until windows 11 is settled and we see some games built for the new consoles.

I didn't mean zen 4 that's what I meant. Anyway you are saying I shouldn't but if I did decide to can I just throw in my boot drives and it will boot with my game drives too and my psu question too

You can get a DDR4 based Z690 board and use your old ram at 1:1

I would try your old PSU, should be ok at 750w using 12700K with gpu

Its worth noting that even the I5 12600 non K will be much better than your current 8700K. These new Alder Lake chips are quite amazing.

The non K wont run unlimited tao so they are useless for gaming. If you run the 8700k at 4.8ghz all core it should be faster than the 12600 non k that looks to run at 4600mhz all core after the 200mhz extra expires after 15-30seconds, and will go lower if the specs are accurate and you cannot override turbo power limits.

The gains are just not there for the cost, and you will need a new board with the next gen.

12400 is faster than the 10900K in all reviews so ok. Even the Celeron G6900 has faster single threaded performance at stock. Clock speed is meaningless when comparing chips of different generations.

Power limits can be increased on non Z boards since Intel 9th gen to allow non K chips to maintain max boost.

Asrock Base Frequency boost, both Asus and MSI have the same, alternatively power limits can be raised in Intel Extreme Tuning app if you lack motherboard support:

With these chips, there is zero valid reason to consider buying any older Intel or AMD CPU if upgrading or building a new system. Motherboard costs are meaningless when everyone can list their old parts on ebay, and the new budget B660 and H670 boards have started releasing this month too.

The 10600k isn't much different than the 8700k TechPowerUp did a review comparing the 12600k and 10600K. The difference is almost 17% average increase in 1080P in the selected games
