New build and possibly switching from Intel to AMD

Its about time to upgrade for me. Ive been an Intel guy for the last 2-3 builds that have lasted me about 15 years but I have been out of touch with hardware for a while. Ive always came here for advice and value opinions on this forums because I know you guys know what you are talking about. Im wanting to build another PC to last me for the next 5-6 years which is usually how long I keep them before rebuilding. I have always been big on reading here vs reviews because here I get multiple viewpoints. I currently have the following setup:

Intel i3570K 3.4Ghz (stock cooling)
Asus P8Z77-V LX
Corsair Vengeance DDR3 CMZ8GX3M2A1600C9B 2x4GB 668.5MHz
Samsung 840 Pro 128GB SSD Drive
Gigabyte Radeon 7950 Vid Card
Thermaltake 850W modular PSU
Creative Soundblaster Z series

I never shoot for brand new top of the line stuff due to price, but I do like to be at the higher end. RIght now I am only looking to upgrade CPU/Mobo/Ram/Vid card and if needed for new hardware, a PSU. Id like to keep it under $1500. Ive read some reviews and am hearing good things about the new Ryzen processors but like I said, I have been Intel for a long while now. I dont need something that can overclock 20GHz, just looking for a good gaming rig. A buddy of mine told me to wait for the new stuff to come out with PCI-e 4th gen but im getting anxious over here lol.

You have waited this long, might as well wait until Ryzen 4000 series comes out in October and jump on a mid tier CPU, i.e: 4700X with an X670 mid tier board and then go back in your hole and hide for the next 5-7 years. However, if you can't wait, jump on a 3900X and a mid tier X570 board and you will still be good for the next 5-7 years. Right now, AMD is the hot tech to jump on. Intel won't have anything new until mid '21 (I think).

I haven't seen a bad review for that board, but I recommend watching a few X570 motherboard Youtube videos and that will help you decide. It does seem though the Gigabyte X570 AORUS Elite is a little better than that board, but that's not for me to decide. Watch a few videos and decide after that. For RAM: I recommend the G.Skill Flare X or any G.Skill Trident Z Neo line of memory. For GPU: What do you do with your PC? Gaming? Movies? Internet only? It really depends on what you do with your PC. What about your budget? For 1440P gaming, I recommend at least AMD 5700 XT. For more demanding games? Go with an RTX 2070 Super, RTX 2080 Super or all the way to the top and for 4K, the RTX 2080 Ti!

It all comes down to your budget and what do you do.

I am in a similar boat with a 5930k. The security fixes have removed enough performance that it feels really old now after a bios update, but I am going to wait for zen 3 with the gains in clock speed that should be there.

Im trying to keep it under $1500 if possible. Thats why Im only replacing cpu/mobo/ram/gpu. Not sure if I will need to get a new PSU. I have a Thermaltake 850w modular so if there are no new connectors, it should do the trick. I only play Counter-Strike currently and sometimes WoW but may be looking to get the new Half Life Alyx or Doom Eternal so I am looking to beef up. I usually get something between top of the line and middle.

Having said that, I just watched a Youtube video about another very similar model from MSI called the MPG X570 Gaming Edge Wifi that has very bad VRM. The board itself got very hot during the test, got very bad review. I know you were talking about the Gaming Plus, but I think they may be very close to each other. I'd say stay away from that board. Get the Gigabyte X570 AORUS Elite or the Asus TUF Gaming X570 Plus Wifi. You will be much happier with these two than the MSI Gaming Plus.

With your budget, you can get the Gigabyte Elite above, Ryzen 9 3900X, RTX 2070 Super and a 32GB memory kit above, total comes to $1,462.xx as priced from a local MicroCenter store.
