Ryzen memory oc issues

So after years of Intel I'm back to AMD. Picked up a new 1700x for $130 so hard to say no. And it's stable at 4.24ghz so it's a great chip.

However memory I can't get to run close to what I ran it in my Z170. It's Crucial ballistix elite BLE4K4G4D26AFEA ran 3200 all day long on my Intel set up but I try for 2800 and get no post with a memory error. So what am I missing?

Mobo is a Strix x470. Coming from Gigabyte so the bios is a little different so am I missing a setting?

Looking at some reviews, 2800 seems to be a wall on some kits, so I'm not surprised that with a 1700X (instead of a Ryzen+) you could have a bit of trouble with them without very slack timings.
Using the Ryzen dram calc (there's a support thread on oc.net), you could look at some extra setting that might help with them or find users that got better results. Here's an example if yours are Micron D-Die link.

I tried that. I got micron a's. I'll try some of that. The calculator has t worked to well I'll try more tonight after work. I'll play around with some relaxed timings. I know on my Intel set up I could do 3200 on stock timings. I can't beet anything over 2666 on this. I'll message around a little more. Looks like I got a strong could so that's good.


Would of went with a 2700x but couldn't justify the $189 price jump or the $119 jump for the 2700. Figured this was a cheap way to get back into AMD and pick up the changes they did since the FX60 days. Then on the next round I'll go big.

Knowing that board, I would set the memory timing full auto and just set the memory speed.

It will guesstimate good setting for you at that speed, you will never hit the same speeds as Intel as the timing is much different.

Just try it.

Ok i got it to 3200mhz. So far i got it to 4.25ghz and she still have more left in the peddle. For a while now i been trying to see how low i can get 4ghz on this. And the result so far 1.306v in bios. Ran prime for a little bit and looks good. I'll run it longer and do some more testing before i say its a 1.306v 4ghz chip. Boots into windows and survives prime for a little bit at 1.29v lol. But looking like 1.306v is going to be a winner.

Going to tighten up my memory timings. I really dont think i'll be able to push this 2666 any more then the 3200 i got it at now but i'll try after i get the timings all worked out.

Sum it up. This is one hell of a $130 cpu. i'll post the batch number as well as the excel of the volts and stable clocks.

Mind sharing the timings with Ryzen Timings Checker when you're set? Could help other users, as micron sticks aren't much popular on Ryzen builds.
Even if timings don't end up great, 3200MHz will benefit your SOC. If you haven't, you might check if tweaking ProcODT helps.

It just finds instability issues alot faster than prime95, which when stress testing in an environment where electricity is expensive is a big help!



What are you using for cooling and what are your ambient temperatures?

It is. This is definitely a golden chip and should be in the top 1-5%. It was bought from Microcenter in Michigan. ua 1751us. That's really all they got. So far I know it's 4.025ghz stable @ 1.306v and the imc looks strong as well. Micron a ballistix elite 2666 so far is at 3200 17-17-17 can't remember the last few off hand. Gotta run a little more memory stability test but so far it looks good. Gonna see if I can tighten the timings a bit more. I don't think I can get higher then 3200 but I'll try after I find the settings for my daily driver and post all the timings.

Can't find any info on this batch number but looks good from what I seen.


Cooler is a custom loop 240 radiator with some Corsair maglev fans.

So soon as I'm finished I'll toss up all my memory timings and all that. But looks good so far. This weekend I'll see if she can hit 4.3ghz. That's the goal.



Also haven't used Asus in a long time. Components are good but much like every single thing Asus makes they can't make anything that's good. Go to save bios and it locks up. Reboot and save it works. Typical junk Asus software. Hardware the mobo is great. Usually I only use gigabyte but because they got a super weak vreg system on there mid teir x470 I went with the Strix.


Vregs are warm up not to bad. I can touch the heatsink so I'm guess under 50c. I can hold onto it all day. Now . Going to poke around the vdcr phase control settings.

4.175ghz 1863 in cinabench. Not bad for a CPU that when I bought the motherboard I pretty much payed $100 for.

Update. The Strix was total trash. So after a few days I had some issues. Go to save bios and it would lock up. I would reboot and save it was fine. After a few days bios settings would revert on there own. Save and boot to windows and nothing would change. Go back to bios and the settings were right. Tried every bios nothing fixed it. Went ahead and rebooted. No usb 3.1 ports would work. Spent t a few hours before putting it back in the box and getting a x470 gaming 7 because Gigabyte has never let me down.


3200 wall on the Strix. Gaming 7 I'm at 3266 so far without even messing with bclock. Wfi is pretty good to. Can't wait to see how it could push some nice Samsung B's because these sticks of $45 Crucial I picked up when I did my Intel system it runs like a boss. So going to mess with this some more. Hoping for 3300 but I can live with 3366 because I thought that 3200 was all these had. Soon as I get it dialed in I'll be trying for some 1900+ cinabench runs on it.

And u can increase performance with "performance BIAS R11 settings" in BIOS. This is special settings which are what are "changing" cache and core complex default comunication. Im using bias R11 for daily use (ussually in most cases is the best in performance)
