General consensus seems to be why?

I get they have an improved process, but this card just doesn't seem to fill any needs. GTX 1060 seems to be better value in general, and that's not even thinking about the latest GTX offerings (though they cost an arm and a leg).

It is basically the same process but with better yields as both are based on samsung 14nm. They should have called it the 585 and no one would have talked about it.

IMO it still better than the old 1060 6GB, but who cares at this point when the 1070 is almost $300 and the 570 under $150. There is just no place for it.

Im not sure I would call it a improvement

    15% increase in clock speed
20% increase in power use so it now uses more than 1080ti and twice as much as the 1060
    10% increase in performance
Making it the worst performance per watt card currently available sure seems like the new 12 nm FinFET process is a bit of a turd other than the 15% increase in clock speed.

But I guess that's still less power than RX580 running 1450MHz out of the box and looking around some models of 590 are using less power than others.

The VRM board partners use is worth at least 15W over the reference 480 one that they base things off of.
