    Blaster Cascade

    Time to show off my new cascade here in XS

    Cascade parts have been in shelf for some time, too much work and some personnal problems have delayed it

    It will be a 2 phase system r402a/r1150

    Parts to be put together:

    2 Rotaries 9000BTUs
    Henry Oil Sep S-5181
    TEV on 1st stage from Danfoss
    Air cooled condensor with 10w fan
    4 pressure gauges
    1 meter copper braided flexible hose 1/2''
    one of my Rev3 evaps
    pressure relief valve
    Danfoss KP15 double pressurestat
    Custom HX

    All this will be inside a stell cage and wrapped in aluminium sheet :p

    Case dimensions: 50x38cms and 55cms height

    1st pics:








    1st stage is ready, although still no insulation.


    The pic of the sight glass shows that its fully liquid line


    Temp sensors were placed mid way the HX, top and bottom cause wanted to check some stuff of the design. -60 was very easy

    2nd stage ready for suction flexible hose




    2nd stage gauges, 1st stage ones are not connected yet. They will be place in the front, hopefully with a Cascade GFroster.



    Copper Flexible hose in place and expansion tanks also connected




    fired the cascade with Co2 and a bit r402a for pressure testing,



    ... and with pure ethylene




    Awesome temps with a 28ºC ambient temp on workshop and HX only wrapped in armaflex, only the SLHX has the final insulation.
    Still lots of work to be done, insulation, final electrics, case, paint job, Gfroster etc...

    [pressure relief valve ]

    I'm glad to see all the time I spent on the did some good. finally seeing a lot of presure releif valves being used. At least now I don't fell like I was beating a dead or pounding my head against the . I'm so happy I'm going to and . Thanks guys lets make Xs the best and safest cooling forum on the web. Not that it wasn't before.

    Those 2 items,pressure shut off control and pressure releif valve should be "MANDATORY" on all cascades.

    As far as I know, the pressure relief valve has a set pressure, just like blow off valves in automotive turbo systems. If the system pressure meets or exceeds that set pressure, the valve opens and releases refrigerant until the system pressure is once again below the valve's set pressure. That way, if there is a sudden rise of pressure, instead of blowing a joint or pipe, the cascade can safely lower pressure, greatly reducing risk of bodily harm.

    It's used for safety then : to prevent "over pressure" and risks of pipes bursts

    that is some nice temps ya getting there blaster. thats the coldest i have seen with 1150 and a 2 stage cascade. Ya beat

    what sort of HX did ya do inside that pipe, looks interesting hey.

    no disrespect to Blaster, but isn't Tom Holck's 2 stager capable of -130C+?

    No Tom's cascade does -120* C w/o load

    Edit: No, my bad. It does -120* C with load.
