Many of you might have noticed that the Ryzen 7 2800X wasn't part of the initial Ryzen 2000 Series launch yesterday. Jim Anderson, Senior Vice President at AMD, has hinted that AMD might release the Ryzen 7 2800X processor at a later date. The main reason for the move is that the current Ryzen 7 2700X and 2700 models already cover the performance and price points. Therefore, AMD doesn't see the need to release a more powerful model at this time. And they're not wrong. Our review of the Ryzen 7 2700X revealed that AMD's current flagship processor has surpassed Intel's Core i7-8700K in multi-threaded workloads while also closing the gap in single-threaded workloads. While Intel still has the advantage when it comes to gaming performance, the difference in performance is slim and gets even smaller as you climb the resolution ladder. Basically, the ball is in Intel's court right now. Whether the Ryzen 7 2800X see the light of the day is going to depend on Intel's response to the Ryzen 7 2700X.

There is no room for a frequency bump with current parts, so short of a 12-core part with a 6-core CCX I don't see where they could go.

It's more likely they are just simplifying the product stack and further mirroring intel's naming scheme.

think about this... 1700x were reject 1800x, 2700x are reject.. ????

There is room for improvement. my 2700x seems leaky as he!!

maybe they could throw a 128mb+ l4 cache on the 2700x and call it 2800x
wont make any difference to the likes of cinbench where amd is already winning
but it could make a big difference in programs where there falling a little behind like games perhaps enough to give them a clear win

so amd waits for intel to make a totally better cpu than 2800x to release 2800x? this explains why amd is always behind... it all makes sense now...

It's about performance per dollar, I doubt Intel's 8 core parts will carry a price within $200 of amd's offering

Intel already already does. You can get an X299 board for $180 and a 7820X for $400 if you have a Microcenter or $450ish if you don't. That puts it within a $70 to $120 difference to the 2700X. One click in the bios sets Multi-Core Enhancement which means 8 cores @ 4.5Ghz with no extra tweaking if you don't want to bother. I even under-volted mine at that speed...

good point, though they don't both fall into the same "category" of intended usage or tier technically. from a consumer stand point, you are absolutely correct. from marketing though, they would be considered 2 different classes of processor.

I think it is possible. I tested first gen - SUmmit Ridge in 7 pieces different batchs. And with the same tzesting method I found difference 125 MHz between Ryzens 7 1800X (worst one and best one).
Pinnacle Ridge seems in higher range what I read in forums. From my experience with Pinnacle I cant tell much, because I have only 2 pieces and not much tested yet...But is possible fro AMD show the CPU with 3.8 GHz base clock and max PB2.0 4400 MHz. Thats mean with XFR2 up to 4450 MHz. Some of Ryzens 7 can hold this frequency in edhanced PB2 with BCLK tweaking. On all cores 2800X in theory could have 4025 MHz in load and it is easy also for all 2700X (1.3V)

That would actually be very interesting, but I don't think is likely due to manufacturing complexity. It would add significantly more than just the cost of the additional cache transistors to make this, so probably unlikely - but still a cool idea.
