    New system for gaming and professional use

    Hi guys,

    after a long time with my old hardware, I need a new and strong PC system for gaming (medium - ultra) and professional (construction tools like UGS NX, E3D and video tool like Pinnacle).
    The professional tools need a lot of memory and cache (exchange datas ~1-10GB), so I need fast SSD and RAM.
    I also want to overclock the system (CPU, RAM), if possible.

    The specs:

    CPU: AMD Ryzen Threadripper 1900X or 1920X
    MAINBOARD: ASRock Fatal1ty X399 Prof. Gaming
    RAM: Corsair Venegance RGB 4x8GB, DDR4-3600
    SDD: Intel SSD Optane 900P 480GB, PCIe 3.0x4 (OS and Construction)
    SSD2: Intel SSD 760p 512GB, M.2 (General and Video)
    HDD: WD Re 2TB, SATA 6Gbs (Backup)
    GPU: Geforce GTX 1060 (the newest GPUs are too expensive, so I will upgrade after the prices are on a lower level)
    PSU: Corsair HX850i
    OS: Win 10 / Linux

    watercooled (I have my own fixed specs):
    CPU
    MOBO

    What do you think about this?

    Thanks.

    The 1900X is basically the Ryzen 7 with QUAD Channel. I personally went for the 1950x and Asus Prime board (was on sale). Might as well go al the way!

    I just need TR4 because of the 2x M2 PCIe SSDs und what's your actual experience with your system?

    Been great, played with Hyper-V, VMWare etc , just testing what's new and some VDI stuff. I game and bench for fun and do some minor content creation stuff etc. Just acquired some M.2's to test with RAID.

    I ran ASUS X399 Zenith Extreme + 1950x for a while, I do both work loads you want to do, work/gaming.

    In the end I moved back to my dual E5-2699v3 system. The main reason was AMD SMT, I ended up just disabling it as some games and programs just don't like SMT being on.

    @charged3800z24:

    Sounds good and what about your specs (compareable with my list)?
    Did you overclock your hardware?

    @buckeye:
    Interesting and overclocking was successful?

    What's exactly the problem with SMT (with the games and programs)? Crashes?
    And which apps? It could be possible, that some of them are the same.

    Keep the SSD's on the CPU and not the PCH, use add in card 900P's and not the M.2 if it uses the PCH.
    I agree that SMT off performs better is some applications. SMT enabled increases TDP quite a bit, measurable.

    Overclocking was a snap, I just used the predefined settings in the BIOS.
    The problem with SMT was mostly with games, many just do not like it. Most of the time they would just error out on startup so I found myself going back in forth into the BIOS to turn of or off SMT which I got tired of.

    A lot of stuff just doesn't show up when reviewing. I did switch this over to my main rig for about a month, that's when issues show their ugly head.
    I know Patrick at STH is using a TR system, pretty much like mine. He does not really game and has no issues with his system. I think games are the problem.

    CPUz screenshot below with system details. I use Samsung 850 pro SSD's and a KXG 256GB M.2 as well as 1 AMD RX Vega 56. I've played several games without any issues such as Diablo 3, GMOD, Battlefield 4, Dota2, Minecraft (yes I said that), 7 days to Die, etc, etc. Always use SMT with all cores enabled. Haven't done a lot of OCing yet, just a quick 4ghz with Cinebench and other Benchmarks.

    Why? What's wrong with M.2 ?

    You tried overclocking?

    What's the difference with SMT? What it's useful for?
    It could be a CPU issue which will be removed with TR 2000 Gen. ?

    Wow, that's very cool.
    You are happy with the Samsung SSD M.2? It's better than the Optane maybe?

    Interesting thing is, that you can play with SMT and you didn't overclock (why?)

    @all:
    I could wait for the TR 2000. It's better than the TR 1000 and any issues are removed maybe?

    I have done some over clocking for test etc, just not for production use. The water cooler keeps this CPU nice n' chill so the XFR keeps it running at a nice boost. Haven't had a reason to OC due to that and with the RX Vega 56, gaming is pretty stellar. The M.2 is a Toshiba KXG and runs nicely. I have 3 Samsung SATA SSD's for my VM's, data, etc. Side note, I use the Windows high performance profile.
