I spent two weeks playing with the new Ryzen 2200G and 2400G processors under the cascade and here are some of my notes.

First thing I did take notice in and did like was the Vega 11 and Vega 8 GPUs at 4K on the desktop. Impressive work AMD,

I tested with a variety of MSI motherboard the B350 ITX platform, the B350 Carbon, and the X370 Titanium. I pushed both CPU, GPU, and memory on all three motherboards to find the ITX board did just as good as the Titanium with the 2400G in every category, the chip was limited to 1.55v on all boards, I tried editing the config files for Ryzen Master to go higher without success. I also tested a Gigabyte AB350 G5 that had the dual BIOS and the second BIOS kicked in and reset the main BIOS, after swapping to old CPU it never posted again. I threw it back in the box.

An Asus motherboard arrives tomorrow, they sent me a new board that I hope beats the MSI boards.

Back to the GPU, I ran both Vega 8 and 11 at 1800Mhz for everything including GPUPI and was able to the Vega 8 to 1975Mhz, I really wanted to 2Ghz screen but it would not give it to me. I abused the GPUs on both processors pushing the max speed and voltage for a week straight. The motherboard has no effect on GPU performance, all three boards were the exact same. From what I can tell the GPU has the most headroom for squeeze some free performance out of by overclocking besides memory tuning.

Performance wise the Vega 11 is close to a GTX 1050 in some things and heavily dependent on memory speed and timing.

This is where all three boards differ, the ITX was the best for memory tuning and it recovered easy. I was able to hit 3600C14 easy for everything and had huge impact on GPU tests but the Carbon could not boot with AXMP 1 settings and I had to use AXMP 2 that was a slower 2933Mhz and could not go much past 3200 pushing it uphill, the Titanium board was able to run at both AXMP settings and started having issues above 3333Mhz.

I expected to hit 5Ghz and fell way short on MSI no matter what board, CPU or vcore I used, at -110c the top speed of the 2400G was 4.8Ghz and the 2200G was 4.7Ghz for threaded stuff.

At these price points you have some ability to improve performance, the biggest gain was with memory tuning and from testing the OC headroom is not enough to gain points on the Bot in any category.

I thought about making the 2200G into XS server and then I came to my senses. I will update again after the Asus arrives.
