Overclocking Northwood on LGA775 Motherboard by 478 to 775 CPU Transfer Card

Hey, guys, this is wytiwx, crazy stuff comes again

Recently I was attracted to Northwood CPU, although intel 865/875 is the best chipset for Northwood, I always love to mod for something different and extreme.

First thing for overclocking Northwood on LGA775 mobo, is that you have a 478 to 775 CPU transfercard. I don't know who invented this thing but it's really a great thing

Let me show you what I did, one by one

Firstly, I tested some LGA775 mobo s by Northwood P4 2.4C 200 FSB, to see what would happen. All used the latest BIOS version, updated Northwood CPU microcode except Award BIOS, and used mobo POST card, did some mod to transfercard.

    1. ASUS P5P800-VM (865)---------- post successfully (it must be).

    2. ASUS P5LD2-X (945) ---------- post successfully.

    3. ASUS P5B/P5B-deluxe/P5B-Premium (965)---------- post halt in 87 code.

    4. ASUS P5K-E/P5K3 (P35)---------- post halt in 03 code.

    5. ASUS P5E (X38) ---------- post halt in 03 code.

    6. ASUS P5E3-Premium (X48) ---------- post halt in 03 code.

    7. ASUS P5Q-Pro/P5Q-Premium (P45) ---------- post halt in 3A code.

    8. ASUS P5Q3 (P45) ---------- post halt in 90 code.

    9. ASUS P5Q-EM DO (Q45) ---------- post halt in 2A code.

    10. Gigabyte 965P-DS3 (965) ---------- post halt in C0 code.

    11. Gigabyte P35-DS4 (P35) ---------- post halt in C0 code.

From those results, the most easy work to mod seems to be ASUS P45 DDR2, for I can see POST screen, so first mobo to mod is P5Q-Pro.

According my results, LGA775 mobo which the most difficult to mod for Northwood is P965, but it may turn to be the best compatibility and performance.

I'd like to know your ideas

Thanks for sharing, its been a few years since we seen these old chips in action.

I barely have time to play with the new chips, hopefully in 2018 I can be a bit more active.

I still have a few of the motherboards and chips you used. I am a hoarder.

Old school overclock things are charming to me, so after a few years I got back again.

Funny thing is I buy more old school hardware than new. Stuff I could never afford. FX-51 for instance. I love to see the old school back in action! thanks for posting

Thx for share man. You push the limit constantly. I always like to see your results.
One question for you. Can you share mod for X48 and ceder mill celeron? And second question is can you find in your country asus CT-479 adapter for normal price?

    THX man

Your need FSB 533 to 800 mod and VID mod if you want Cedar Mill Celeron D on ASUS RE X48, other ASUS X48 or Gigabyte X48 mobo s need no mod. I posted the method to do this mod almost 5 years ago, now you have to find similar things on OverClock.net or other OC forums. I will post it again if necessary when I find a good netdisk to upload my pictures.

As to CT-479 adaper, I got one last year by luck, it's a bit hard to find another one in China nowadays, and the price is more another story.
