I don't know for sure tho... who knows.
ComputerBase tested the whole Noctua TR4 line-up.
A long story short: They suck (barely sufficient at stock).

    They kept a stock 1950X 0.2 - 4.9 degree C below the rated tDieMax (68 degree C).

The whole launch of Threadripper has been pretty disgraceful.
It's been over three weeks since the launch and you can't even purchase a proper cooler for the CPU.
The only thing you can get is one of the 20+ Asetek AIO variants, or one of the few water blocks which require a custom loop.
Enermax Liqtech TR4 AIOs were initially supposed to become available in the beginning of september, however now the european retailers have a new ETA set to the end of october.

Actually TR launch has been pretty good. Performance is actually very good.
Boards I have tested so far have very limited issues, where as Ryzen boards have been a cluster F.
Just finished testing a MSI Gaming Pro Carbon AC which was freaking great, two clicks and I had 4GHz and 3200MHz RAM stable for all my benches. Brain Chew* might have to fine tune to get his stress tests working to his liking, but for me it works well.

As far as coolers go, get any AIO on AMD's list and you are good to go. With WCG you might want to run at a lower clock speed tho.
The Thermaltake Water 3 Ultimate handles my system very well.

These chips... at least the 1950x run pretty hot so I did not have high hopes for a Air Cooler. I think most cooler companies held back to see just how high the demand would be, but in the mean time current AIO's that fit the included bracket work well. I recommend a Triple Rad AIO if you want to use a 1950x.

Swiftechs on the ball this go around.

They already have a TR specific not a mount change a block completely designed for TR. Its a tad pricey but available today.

I already ordered adapters for my drive x2( which should do decent on TR )...but i guess i can play guinea pig with the TR block as well and order one this weekend.

Chips are here. Board is here just need mounts from swiftech.

Ouch, I guess everything is subjective then

It pisses me off that AMD essentially forces TR users to purchase a POS Asetek based AIO solution, which is simply whiskey tango'ed to be compatible with the platform.
Pretty weak if that happened on a mainstream platform, but on a halo platform? Totally unacceptable and absurd.

The TDG specs for this platform were completed exactly a year ago, yet none of the 3rd party cooler manufacturers had their products available at launch.
I wonder if all of the cooler manufacturers decided not to produce compatible coolers for the launch, or if the people who are (supposed to be) communicating with the manufacturers simply didn't do their jobs.

Since the Asetek TR4 mounting brackets are in short supply, I had to give mine away. These brackets cannot be purchased separately and none of the Asetek based AIOs ship with one.
At the moment my only option would be purchasing a Noctua heatsink (which is scarcely available and insufficient) or go with a custom loop (several blocks are available). A custom loop is not an option, as the system needs to be portable and easy to throw aside (I have too much crap laying around).
Three weeks after the launch and I cannot even boot the system.

Also while trying to make a custom mounting bracket for a aircooler (3D printing) I ran into another issue.
The moron who designed the socket decided to use non-standard PEM fixtures for the cooler mounting. The cooler mounting on SP3 socket uses M3.5 PEM nuts. M3.5 fixtures are pretty much as common as dodo birds nowdays.
Based on the SP3 MDG the M3.5 fixtures are also totally uncalled for in terms of strength. Even a M2 (let alone M3) screws would outlast the spot welded M3.5 PEM nuts. Finding any M3.5 screws was a total PITA, I had to order ones intended as the head bolts of a RC car engine (HPI) from Taiwan.
Despite all the effort I spent into the custom bracket, it ended up failing too (my fault).

From AMD's perspective TR was exactly the right thing to do. In the current situation juicing out all they can from a single design (Zeppelin) was essentially the only option.
However in my opinion a design like this (MCM) simply doesn't belong anywhere near the desktop or a consumer product in general.

If I'd find a person (crazy and / or stupid enough) who would be willing to swap the 1950X to a 7900X (or even 7820X) I wouldn't have to think it for a second.
Mind you that I currently use a 18C/36T Haswell-EP in my workstation.

Getting this pissed over a platform that I didn't pay anything for. If I had paid the retail price for the 1950X and a high-end motherboard I'd be *ucking furious.

Each on their own of course.

    I concur on the mounting.

    I had a heck of a time getting m 3.5 threaded rod...

I can tell you that anyone who goes to Microcenter to build a TR rig is stuck with crappy AIO. There are no air sinks in stock.

I also need to call swiftech....i ordered my mounts last friday...even paid for priority mail 3-5 business days... Still not here. Going on 8 days now....

Like the stilt I need to be able to swap easily but in my case from am3/4 to tr4 ( also could do intel if needed ) so swiftech is my only option at present time.

Also...the block they sell impairs my ability to do this which is why i opted to roll with the apogee drive x2.

Oh also pre launch I was using a the apogee xl2 acrylic top block with custom mounts...was unable to aquire what i needed pre lauch from swiftech. Long story short....the heat cracked the outlet ( hot) side and developed a leak forcing me to swap the block with swiftech for the xl non acrylic block...

P.S. I have not opened the retail box yet but do you need the AIO mount from it Stilt? I have 0 plans on using or buying an asetek rebranded AIO for it.

I ran prime 95 @ 3.8 on the 12 core with a naked vrm with a 600 rpm fan over just the vcore fets........my biggest issue was maintaining not vrm temps but cpu temps.

Couple quick runs, one for a baseline then one with just tuning memory with sub 4 gig to show how "OFF" some of the CB results were prelaunch leaks.

All about keeping chip cool and memory dialed in right.

I wish I could join in the fun but AMD decided against it. I was ready to build custom mounting too.

Do you want matching speed 7960X compares? I do not wanna troll your thread.

Interesting. Very similar performance. When i swap to SR sticks ill suck in trfc and CR. Dont expect miracles but its already very very close. Was not expecting that.

Hows the core ipc ht off vs ht on charles?

CR 2 is "stable" like 24/7 prime....but on top of that it lets me suck in timings with more impact on Ryzen.

    Its a dual rank thing.

I am always finding stuff that favors HT off, my most recent find if you want to take a few seconds to try.

Open up newest CPUZ and go to bench page and run 32 threads and then 30 threads, is 30 threads faster?

Well this was easy to.....I think it's safe to say the throughput is really good on this configuration I am running right now.

I also solved my Vega 64 problem.....2x Fury X beats it stock so problem solved.

Hits like 22400 in fire strike stock gpu cpu @ 3.8 with 1.2v HT off which is what I am settling on for this chip and current cooling.
