they will say it is a work station card with full fp16 support. in terms of a workstation card you get the special driver and workstation support, it goes against a $4k nvidia card, and it is a reasonable wattage for a workstation. it also has about $400 in just ram.

i dont get what they are going to do about gaming, and the performance is really bad for the power draw and die size. the question is if it is amd's fault or samsungs fault for the die, and how much ram can they actually get/at what cost is that ram.

Gaming Perf is great! On par with 1080.

The final one might even beat the Ti; results, better than I expected.

That's why I wait (and am still waiting) for final results. Early leaks, guesstimates, rumors, and speculation aren't much to go by most times.

I'm still not buying anything right now regardless, as it isn't in the budget to do so, but I'm still curious as to the final results.

A $1200 card that is slower than a 1080 while consuming more power is pretty boring...

Might have to go Nvidia this time around.
Best guess is that AMD has low volume and wants to capitalize on the enterprise market first. The Frontier Edition costs just about the same to produce (just need more RAM), but they can easily charge more to cloud computing companies.

I agree. The enterprise market is blowing up.

I also think yeilds are poor and they need more time to cherry pick 1630mhz capable chips for the RX.

Poor yields are definitely a factor as well. I don't think AMD ever envisioned their useful volume being this low a year after the 1080 launched.

    Is that sarcasm ?
Being "on par" with 1080 with 300W+ is kinda lame. With 400W its horrible.
And theres long way to 1080ti from 1080 :/

Im guessing these low scoring 1200Mhz units .
So we will get 1480/1630mhz thats a nice bump. But Considering the scores of VEGA FE (in games) thats not enough.
I know you cant talk specifics, but are you talking about gains from drivers/software ?

Here is an interesting thought i had. Hbm sort of cheats in the high detail texture department as far as size limitations go or at least i observed that 4g on the 290x is not equal to fury x 4g.

I wonder if 2x fury x would be a better solution or if the 8gb hbm2 will just womp them.

Looks like Pascal tweaker wait will be shorter than expected

NV is correct, market situation wont change cos their cards will be more competitive.

I don't think 8gb will come into play @ 1080 though, also I don't believe 2*fury x's will go below your refresh rate.

With textures and details cranked @ 1080 i was hitting memory limits on 290x crossfire. Fps took a hard dive when i did it. HBM seems to buffer? better, i am not sure of technical aspect but over 4gb use was not as extreme but did hurt still. It makes for a rather dissapointing gaming experience at least on my rig.

My mins on ROTR full eyecandy @ 1080p are dissapointing as well as witcher 3.

I have to stay in like 3.5 range with lesser detail.

Thats on the intel rig btw so its not a "ryzen" gaming issue.

Ryzen needs a bit more time to mature to make it into my daily not to mention I have yet to find a board that fits my criteria of external monitoring without software installed on system.

Tonga and Fiji have improved frame buffer color compression which is probably why you see less memory use / more efficient use on Fiji vs. Hawaii. AMD Touted 5-7% performance improvement from the R9 280 to R9 285 with Tonga.

AMD improved on this further in Polaris IIRC

The old blindfold test vs. 1080. If Vega was really that amazing there would have been some serious hard numbers present.

All this smoke and mirrors means one thing. In the games that vega likes, its on par with 1080 stock :/ with vega at 300W.
I seriously hope that this 300$ price difference is in the card also not only in the monitor used.
And hope to god that was air cooled vega.Because if its this 375W monster that can barely keep up with stock 1080, i cant fathom how they could sell it without loss.
I mean, any properly factory OCed 1080 is gonna be on par with water cooled vega at 375W.Hard sell.
i Will buy one, but it better be cheaper than 1080.

Should be cheaper, but far less profit. I think if Ryzen wasn't a success I reckon AMD would be finished. At least the CPU front keeps them going now, tables have turned, used to be more GPU.

The $300 wouldn't be just in the card, whole system could mean monitor or could even mean a high end Intel CPU and mobo was used opposed to AMD Ryzen, again, no exact details.

So there air cooled card was able to maintain 1600 core with a 1mv drop on the core. Power was way down too. Performance just squeezed by the 1080.

July 30th. Paperlaunch AFAIK (if that means anything anymore, AMD has done so many Vega events, it really doesn't matter)
