[News] AMD XFX RX480 can be BIOS flashed to RX580

I didn't see another post on this and thought it was newsworthy for its own thread so here it goes.

I guess it gets even better for AMD now as forum user at Techpowerup has successfully flashed the BIOS of the RX480 to achieve a RX580:

Just thought that i would post my results. I have successfully flashed my xfx rx480 8gb with saphire rx580 bios. This one to be exact.

I did this as well, but did not publicly disclose as I was testing the stability. Basically the silicon lottery will dictate if a 480 can function under the increased speed and load. Mine is able to handle 1375MHz, with reasonable voltage a little above 1.150v. The new rx580 bios increased the voltage to a maximum of 2.0v, which should be plenty of headroom for rx480's with decent cooling. There are questions about VRM heat, so as such, I would recommend caution if you are attempting with a blower card.

EDIT: Here are the SS of the result on my rig with validation.

AMD changed its gpu upgrades to something like Windows 10. You will get new cards by firmware updates.
