    It begins... Project "Phantom Blackstar"

Oh how its been such a long painful wait for something worth upgrading to, but that time has now arrived Anyone else building a Zen system? It's time enough to reveal my under-wraps build I think.

    CPU: TBC, 1700 or 1600X
Mainboard: Gigabyte X370 "Auros" Gaming 5
    RAM: 2x8GB G.Skill Ripjaws 3200MHz C15
    GPU: GTX980 @ 1.5GHz / 7600MHz
Storage: Seagate Barracuda 2TB, 256GB Hynix SL308 SSD, 120GB WD Green M.2 2280 (SATA controller)
    Opticals: 1x DVD-RW, 1x Blu-Ray
    PSU: EVGA G2 1000w Supernova
    Case: NZXT Phantom 530
Case Cooling: 4x 200mm fans, Liquid Ultra, AS Ceramique 2
CPU Cooling: Seidon 120, if I can find / mod a bracket for AM4

My theory is take the hit on the core and thread count for higher OC core speeds. This all depends on price though if the 1600X isn't going to be 240-260 might as well grab a 1700. Also depends on if AMD are going to stick to their promise of a full product stack being available at launch. Very surprised AMD didn't include the 1600X with preorders as that CPU is more than likely what 90% or more of people building a new system are waiting for. Typical of AMD to miss the golden bullet IMO.

Of course, a few pics of the build so far

6 cores are gonna be a month late and 4 cores even more than that unfortunately. But AMD is bringing a nice OC tool for zen which will allow diff oc for diff cores so you could choose the strongest one.

Ram choice should be based on what platform prefers for ic. That said...no one is or should be posting results/info yet so. Just deciding X is gonna work good has never worked in the past on AMD.

My 2c...wait till people find what the chip likes best. Then decide.

Same goes for boards. Depends on what they can/cant do. Some oc cpu good, some ram good. Buy what works best for your application.

I've got no strings to hold me down.
To make me fret, or make me frown.
I had strings but now I'm free.

Yeah I was weighing up if I wait or get the 1700. As the build is also for review (new career turn), had to opt with the 1700 PIB.

Aorus G5 should be pretty good at both (I like balance), Gigabyte have already released a UEFI improving memory compatibility. Memory I have should be a safe bet to do well too, set of G.Skill F4-3200C15D-16GVK.
