[News] AMD's Ryzen CPUs Shipping Date Surfaces; Mark Your Calendars for February 28th

    https://www.techpowerup.com/230464/a...-february-28th

A Reddit user brought to the playing field the news that AMD's upcoming ZEN CPU's have surfaced in a "pre-order" form through AMD Shangai's official Taobao channel (though you should nevertheless take these with a measure of salt). Details on which CPU we are actually looking at here are still scarce, unfortunately, but the chip is listed at ?1999.00 (roughly $295). While the chip's process is listed at the expected 14 nm, the base CPU frequency reads 4.2 GHz.

Looking at the supposed AMD Ryzen launch line-up, though, no model is listed at these clockspeeds. However, we should recall that AMD's Ryzen chip used on CES 2017 (an engineering sample) carried clockspeeds of 3.6 GHz base and 3.9 GHz boost, so it is certainly conceivable that newer, release steppings have bumped the frequencies to 3.9 GHz/4.2 GHz respectively (4.2 GHz base clock seems a little too much from what we've seen from the chip, but then again, we don't have any indication as to whether this is an 8-core, 16-thread or a 4-core, 8-thread part, so that should also be taken into account on our "theorycrafting"). We should now have a more firm launch window for Ryzen chips though: previous rumors have pegged the launch at March 2nd, but a February 28th launch window should now be considered to be correct. Can we just have these on our hands already?

That of course means lower prices in US.
So, where are my "these cpus will cost 700-1000$" fellas at ? ;-)

Was someone really claiming they'd be that expensive?

Yup, people were sayin, "if it will be in 6900K performance bracket, it will cost the same or , amd has no interest in selling these cheaper" and along those lines.I understood they reasoning, but i was also sure it wont be the case because of reasons .
But well, its still not official pricing.

e600 for the 1800X seems reasonable if it keeps up (or possibly even beats) the 6900k.

I was expecting around $500 based off previous rumors; guess AMD feels confident in their ability to sell.

600Euros means around 500$ ,as everything in EU has VAT added (and also some form of "youre a european, pay more").
Also it looks like they will start from 350$/380E for the 8 core, and as they are all unlocked...
Also, given the sample at new horizons was at 3,4 , it seems even R7 1700 will be enough to match 6900K at base clocks, in blender at least.

Does that factor in the USD/euro conversion rate? I get VAT adds to end cost, but I have to imagine the currency exchange rate has to drive prices up a little bit.

Dollar is strong atm(or euro is weak) , so, 1E=1.06$, so not that big of a difference, but still there, but VAT is depending on the country 19-25% , so thats A LOT , on the whole price in dollars in US could be up to 30% less.Of course pricing can be also arbitrary not just a simple math.
Anyhow 500$ US for top model and 350$ for slowest 8C/16T seems plausible for the US market.

I think it's safe to say AMD is going to slightly underprice fair value to claim back market share (as they did the with RX 480). Performance increases at the top level tend to come in exponential prices increases, so if fair 1800X market value would have been $700, I think that means we're going to see a hell of a performer.

1 euro = 1.06 USD according to the most current exchange rate listed on xe.com

buying power and value are not the same. USD*1.20 (vat)*1.05 (5% currency exchange fee) would give you the buying power of USD as if it was a euro, then you convert. that is why pricing was around 1:1 when the euro was worth 1.25-1.30 USD.

Can't wait for benchmarks and official reviews for this, hope it lives up to the expectations that AMD claimed about.
