The software king of the world is rumoured to be announcing 700 more job cuts next week when Microsoft announces its quarterly earnings.

To be fair Vole, has been saying it was going to liberate 2,850 Voles from its global Vole hills for a while now. These 700 will be the first wave to go.

Microsoft is not saying anything about the cuts but it appears that the rumours are accurate. The company's previous job cuts have come in areas including its smartphone business and global sales team.

The new lay-offs are general and across a variety of job functions inside the company.

The staff reductions are nowhere near as bad as the cuts carried out in July 2014, where 18,000 Voles were released into the wild to fend for themselves. That was 14 percent of the company at the time. The difference is that Microsoft has been doing rather better of late so one has to wonder what is in the results which will make Vole so keen to reduce costs.

Kind of surprising that they are cutting jobs right now (especially when all the evidence points to cutting the test/debug team hurting their OS stability), but that's the CS industry for you. Very up and down job market.

Come on guys, that's just rude. I went to college with plenty of brilliant Indians that are now project architects at MS, Google and Apple.

For the record, I don't think there's any problem with hoping MS cuts their 3rd party tech support. But to throw an entire race of people under the bus is just unnecessary.

True, but that's not really the point.

You can dislike a service a company provides without throwing a race under the bus. I would have had zero issue with people stating "I don't like their tech support", as opposed to "hopefully all indians are out" and "Im sure there are some smart ones, but mostly unprofessional and rude ones."

I.e. reason vs racism.

You are greatly exaggerating. Does "an entire race of people" work in MS tech support? When did a nation become a race? The inference for me was lack of English skill from India based tech support... I don't care about skin. Millennials seem to believe that anyone who disagrees with them is "racist".

I feel sorry for those who may lose employment at Microsoft simply to improve the corporate bottom line. Hopefully, as other jobs open up at MS they will be given an opportunity to stay with the company.

I also feel empathy toward those who feel it necessary to tear others down to improve their own self worth in some perverted fashion.
