    Likely Zen *Greenland* and, ARM.

All the article really says is Ontel is deprecating some x86 SIMD instructions ... to save die space ?

It's not a big deal but Chipzilla is losing the transistor density wars. ARM cores are silly-small but at the sacrifice of FP and SIMD. Transistor density of AMD's 28nm SHP process (GlobalFoundries) is not dissimilar from Ontel's 14nm.

And presumably, the Zen APU will be a SIMD monster, building on AMD's vision of the shaders functioning as a "SIMD engine array" -- on top of quad DDR4, unified memory, HBM2, et. al.

It may not beat the fastest or the "best-est" but that's a fancy uArch, fer sure.

amd cpus will be dead by then. New arch will replace the current in both per/price/features.

What makes you think AMD's CPU dept will be dead by 2020?

Not sure about the dates given.

I thought the current roadmap was (at least for desktop): Kabylake (2017), Coffeelake (2018), Icelake (2019), Tigerlake (2020)

With indications pointing towards Cannonlake being a Laptop/mobile only part in late 2017.

After 2020...so like 2021...that's 5 years away, lots could change by then...hopefully they solve whatever problems are preventing them from going from 10nm and then 7nm first.

Intel already has a response to Zen. I would say it's closer to a response to the rise of ARM processors. But mostly Intel needs to stay relevant. Their current architecture is good but old.

Intel can't afford to let AMD die. They need AMD to protect them from antitrust laws.

    CPUS, NOT AMD.

Dont turn the sentence other way around. AMD is dead on desktop market, their shyty gpus like VEGA which is 10% over 1080, best case scenario while burning from power draw/temp.

AMD crap will have 3 years till Intel comes up with new sh!!!t.

I'm not turning anything around. Its the same exact thing. Regardless of weather or not AMD survives on its GPU program; if Intel becomes the only company producing x86 chips for the desktop/server market they can be considered a monopoly under the anti trust laws.
