In an AMA (ask me anything) session with Tom's Hardware community, AMD desktop processor marketing exec Don Woligrosky answered a variety of AMD Ryzen platform related questions. He did not shy away from making a key comment about the company's upcoming high-end graphics card, Radeon Vega, either. "Vega performance compared to the Geforce GTX 1080 Ti and the Titan Xp looks really nice," Woligrosky stated. This implies that Radeon Vega is in the same league of performance as NVIDIA's two top consumer graphics SKUs, the $650 GeForce GTX 1080 Ti, and the $1,200 TITAN Xp.

It is conceivable that AMD's desktop processor marketing execs will have access to some privileged information from other product divisions, and so if true, this makes NVIDIA's recent memory speed bump for the GTX 1080 a failed gambit. NVIDIA similarly bumped memory speeds of the GTX 1060 6 GB to make it more competitive against the Radeon RX 580. Woligrosky also commented on a more plausible topic, of the royalty-free AMD FreeSync becoming the dominant adaptive v-sync technology, far outselling NVIDIA G-Sync.

I don't think anyone told you to shut up, we just disagreed with you. Why should Nvidia sweat that AMD is finally catching up to a year+ old chip? If Vega matches the Xp, the worse that AMD can do to NVIDIA is make them price honestly. Volta is just around the corner, the FY IIRC. No sweating from the green camp I think.

Professional Volta, maybe. I don't see Nvidia releasing Volta to consumers till 1Q/1H 2018. Even then i'm guessing it will be small die first

That would be one of the fastest releases for them in a while then. 1080Ti launched in March, and typically the Ti's last for 9-10 months before the small chip of the next architecture is released. That would put Volta(GV104) right around late Q4 '17 or early Q1 '18. Considering they are apparently going to be running on GDDR6, that would coincide quite nicely timing wise.

I'd tend to agree with madmaxx. Have hard time seeing retail consumer Volta's coming out in Q3 2017 - more likely March 2018. But I don't know anything. Only gut feeling based on other releases this year. I'm sure once we get closer to the May 8th GTC event things will get clearer.

Also BenchZowner usually releases some hints once he knows something is up!

SK Hynix has recently stated that GDDR6 memory production is on schedule for Q1 2018. I'm not sure how Volta could launch with no memory... unless the consumer Volta is HBM2 now?

being HMB2 has no bulk shipments yet or even part numbers i dont think being hmb2 is any better for getting out on time. gddr5, 5x, and 6 are also supposed to be pin for pin electrically and it will still be QDR. so, the voltage tolerance is likely more of a compatibility problem than the speed.

HBM2 needs to release well before GDDR6. Otherwise AMD is going to have some serious issues on their hands with Vega.

I'd guess that'd there would have been internal "leaks" if this was the case, based off the person's statement it quite literally means nothing a 1060's performance looks really nice compared to a Titan Xp if you care about power or cost more than absolute performance.

I think, the performance ov Vega could be between 1080 and 1080Ti. So average better than 1080, but not than 1080Ti
