if those prices are true...
I know it's just speculation...but c'mon! Nope. Not going to happen. I mean they really are low balling performance gains here.
When's the last time nvidia released a successor of a video card and there was only 15% to 20% performance jump from the previous generation?
I can't recall one in recent history.

IMO that's where the GP104 cards should have launched at ($350/$500).
Nvidia does minor tweaks all the time. Think back to the 8800 -> 9800, 480 -> 580, and 680 -> 780 transitions.
In general, I really wouldn't be too disappointed by 20% increase for an 8% decrease in price. I think it's the starting point of the Pascal cards that makes me want to respond with a farting sound instead. Having said that, I'm sure Vega's performance will determine Nvidia's response more than anything.
Some of the cards the only real upgrade is faster memory thus a small increase in speeds.
But 20% faster for -8% price is better since IMO NV is over priced but AMD is late to the party thus NV can price the cards higher and people will buy.

But by the time the next generation of cards come out it will be 5 years since the 680 and 4 years since the 780. I don't know maybe it's just me, even if it is speculation, I still find the thought baffling based on history since then. I don't "buy" that nvidia would just all of a sudden settle for releasing a new card with only a 15% to 20% jump in performance. I mean this is not Intel we are talking about here where 10% to 20% IPC jumps are the norm.

they did that basically every time there was no die shrink. the 9xx/7xx was the strange ones since they brought back the high end chips (the xx0 gpus that were moved to tesla only) instead of a new generation since tsmc delayed a shirnk for the 7xx, then for the 9xx tsmc was 3-4 years delayed on getting their die shrink so they ported a new arch to a node it was not intended for.
the midrange 7xx was even just a rebadge of the 104 part like this is looking like.

So 2 things:
1) The 1080 is literally head and shoulders better than the 680. The 980 had about double the fps of the 680, and the 1080 is around 75% better than that. Not even in the same stratosphere.
2) Intel has really slowed down their innovation due to physical material limits. I don't recall seeing a 20% IPC increase a long time (perhaps Sandybridge was close?).
I can't see Nvidia refreshing pascal, especially this fast. Problems with Volta?

titan x as 2080ti with more clock... thats what i just want to see.
When i'm being paid i always do my job through.
I can see it happening, don't think we've even begin to see what Pascal can do, and I'm sure nVidia is confident they can take on whatever AMD comes out with. Then rinse and repeat with Volta. Been going on like this for a while now. Gotta be one pleasant position to be in as a company.
