[News] SellGPU to Revolutionalize Graphics Card Industry

A new tech firm is set to revolutionize the graphics card industry by purchasing GPUs directly from consumers through a fast, easy-to-use, and zero-risk process. SellGPU.com, a company of gamers, programmers, and hardware enthusiasts, was established to help individuals with the need for high-end PC components dispose of their old GPUs. Founder and CEO Said Hafez created the company in late 2014 after finding difficulty in getting rid of an old GPU batch.

"SellGPU is the first business of its kind to establish the re-commerce business model in the GPU industry," Hafez said. "We are giving individuals who need high-end graphics the power to safely and quickly sell their GPUs, making the upgrading process easier and more affordable." SellGPU offers its customers instant quotes. After the customer accepts the offer, he or she will have the option to receive a free anti-static foam box and prepaid shipping label with which to send the GPU. The customer then simply places the GPU in the box, tapes the box, affixes the shipping label to it, and drops it off at any local post office. Once the GPU reaches SellGPU, it gets inspected and tested. If it passes the testing process, the customer gets paid by PayPal or check within three business days. If the GPU fails the tests, SellGPU returns it free of charge.

Gamers upgrading to the GTX 1070, GTX 1080, or the Radeon RX 480 have been receiving up to $92 for a GTX 960, up to $158 for a GTX 970, and up to $212 for a GTX 980.

"SellGPU is attempting to do to the GPU industry what Gazelle, Inc. did to the smart phone market," Hafez said. "A market disruption from SellGPU could mean a lot of savings to gamers, and computer enthusiasts will now be able to further their ambitions in building the most up-to-date rigs."

I think it means that SellGPU wants to take over the used dGPU market to get cash into the hands of people with used video cards so they can spend it on new cards. Some folks never sell their old dGPUs 'cuz they don't know what they're worth or are intimidated by the prospect of selling on eBay or other second-hand markets.

If SellGPU can give people a stamped, addressed mailer suitable for dGPU shipment, all the end user would have to do is request the mailer, pop in the old card, send it, and get cash sent to their PayPal account or whatever. Probably at a loss vs. what they could get selling the card on their own. But still. For some people this will be a godsend. Expect some miners to abuse it too.

This is not a solution cause it does not buy old gpu, check the list of gpus they buy and you will see that they only buy 1 generation old gpus which are not old, and by the way the price they pay for them is a completely rip-off, go buy a r9 nano for $520 and sell to them for $240. Perhaps now it might sound a good deal for whoever wants a shiny 14nm or 16nm GPU and wants to dump their 28nm. I'd say only a mindless would do that kind thing.

Yeah looks like they are skimming off people who are ignorant and/or lazy.
