Wait. What? We're less than 6 months from the AM4 launch, and they're refreshing the Sabretooth? Crazy bastards.

    Very ncie board.
But its logic, Im sure, the boards for Zen will be more expensive, teh CPUs also. So this could be still good and cheaper alternatvie. Some AM3+ board and FX-8300 or so...

So is this board gonna retail for $100 or so? That's where some used Sabretooth Rev 2.0 board are at right now on NewEgg.

Initial pricing that I have seen puts it at about €225, caveat with that is there are extra EU taxes in play so probably in the region of $200-225

I wonder just how many Asus will make? what is their minimum serial run for a motherboard - 500?, 1000?
I remember the R2.0 Gen3 was available for about 4 or 5 months and then just disappeared.

But you are right, say you have a nice FX83xx or FX95xx @ 5Ghz, 16GB of DDR3 and a GPU to match. Do you need to jump onto Zen straightaway? Price in a CPU (lets say for arguments sake a 'Founders' price of $300 - $400 minimum, Crosshair or Sabertooth level board - $300 and some DDR4 - $100 and you are looking at $700 to jump across to the new platform. Or you could do as I will be. bide your time, refresh your AM3+ build with the Gen3 (28-Jul) and add in a Samsung 950 Pro NVMe card or the upcoming SM961 NVMe (08-Aug) and wait for the early adopters to find the best CPUs, RAM and boards and then move across.

I suspect the run of advanced AM3+ mobos is to iron out any potential issues (M.2 slots, USB 3.1, etc) in the transition to AM4 ---- and introduce the engineering into the manufacturing process.

Especially being that much of this is on AsMedia's shoulders.

edit -- And, what Robotic said. The 990FX chipset is still a potent platform.

Well if Asus thinks they can sell these things then let them try. In my opinion, if the price to move to Zen is only $700 then heck yeah I'd jump on it versus sitting on Piledriver.

    This is 2016,right?
Asus releases 990fx chipset board in 2016?
You know what would be great? If they made a backwards compatible chip with zen power and you can plug it into AM3/3+ board :o

Hey they had a rash of 970 boards a few months ago. Might as well update 990fx as well.

Its impossible. The outside NB is very oldschool style. The same older VR AMD for Zne cnt be similar as at AM3+ boards etc...
I think, at least one year we will see Vihsera and Zen together. Vishera will be cheaper alternative for AMD fans. Im sure, Zen will be higher price focused...

9590 Refresh like the 5200+ would be great.

Can we get 95w though ,prob won't clock better but def be cooler.

    Combo 9590 w/ Sabertooth R3.0 for 400 USD = Win

Will you compare to Formula Z.

Memory clocking/FSB clocking and Max Ghz/stability.

I have a brand new Crosshair Z for sale. Brand new from RMA that is.

You should know there's still alot of sales for AM3+ going on. This is the reason why it's continued and proberly will be there for a while.

As ZEN arrives, the prices on FX Vishera will drop, and admitted, a 4.6GHz or higher Vishera still works perfect today in many applications.

The 2 upgrades makes it a more futureproof and solid platform, so yeah, they updated that for a reason.

Yeah but unless the board prices go down, it's kind of a non-starter.

You still pay for a premium board suitable to run the 9590 or whatever with 220W tdp.

Meh. Old Sabretooths are $100-$150 on eBay. You'd be better off running an 8370 too, or a good sample of an 8320e, unless you just love those high-leakage parts.

Finally arrived in UK / Ireland distribution channel. Should have it by the end of the week - Now just have to get rid of 7 SSD and 4 HDDs and decide on a SM950 Pro or SM961 for the M.2 slot
