Did the version of vBulletin we were on salt and hash passwords or just hash them?

    ---

XS may not be as big of a community these days as it once was, but I think we've been fortunate in a way so as to be relieved of a lot of the cruft and left with a better core.
Particle's First Rule of Online Technical Discussion:
As a thread about any computer related subject has its length approach infinity, the likelihood and inevitability of a poorly constructed AMD vs. Intel fight also exponentially increases.

    Rule 1A:
Likewise, the frequency of a car pseudoanalogy to explain a technical concept increases with thread length. This will make many people chuckle, as computer people are rarely knowledgeable about vehicular mechanics.

    Rule 2:
When confronted with a post that is contrary to what a poster likes, believes, or most often wants to be correct, the poster will pick out only minor details that are largely irrelevant in an attempt to shut out the conflicting idea. The core of the post will be left alone since it isn't easy to contradict what the person is actually saying.

    Rule 2A:
When a poster cannot properly refute a post they do not like (as described above), the poster will most likely invent fictitious counter-points and/or begin to attack the other's credibility in feeble ways that are dramatic but irrelevant. Do not underestimate this tactic, as in the online world this will sway many observers. Do not forget: Correctness is decided only by what is said last, the most loudly, or with greatest repetition.

    Rule 3:
When it comes to computer news, 70% of Internet rumors are outright fabricated, 20% are inaccurate enough to simply be discarded, and about 10% are based in reality. Grains of salt--become familiar with them.

Remember: When debating online, everyone else is ALWAYS wrong if they do not agree with you!

    Random Tip o' the Whatever
You just can't win. If your product offers feature A instead of B, people will moan how A is stupid and it didn't offer B. If your product offers B instead of A, they'll likewise complain and rant about how anyone's retarded cousin could figure out A is what the market wants.

Thanks, Fugger. I came to check things out last week, and though maybe this was the final blow. I was crushed.

I may not post much anymore, or even logon much anymore. But I visit very often to see whats new, and watch the build logs. I was crushed I tell ya!

I think if a more recent database could be restored it would of by now but who knows, maybe fugger is still working on something we don't know about.

I recovered newer bare metal backups today, some progress that we may be moving forward.

I will keep digging a bit more, I am trying to restore bare metal backups after deleted partition.

    Hey Fugger,

could you please respond to this question posted by Particle,

None of my accounts have ever been compromised, but on the July 22nd I received and email from Twitter stating

"We noticed a recent login attempt from an unusual device or location. "

Now my XS password is not the same as the Twitter password, but does have some common characters, so a straight answer to Particle's question would be very much appreciated.

Thanks in advanced for all your hard work!

Does Google offer their "backup" copy of your website for free?

Google cache has a lot of missing threads, e.g. Splave's ***Official ASRock z170 OC Formula Finger Pop OC Bonanza #UKNOWDAT Edition FTW ETC*** thread.

Thanks for keeping the site going, Charles. I haven't been posting much at all (been busy with real life BS), but I still come here more than enough.
My password is now old, too, so I'm not worried about anyone hacking into anything.

As of right now I have a restore a few months newer, I have already started to update and convert to UTF8, my plan is when its on the same version is to sync the two.

From what I have researched that he "user" table has the salt, I can only assume they took the salt hash since they did pull the user table.

However, I need to take a break, so many of my threads have been lost.
