Its true, this is terrible news to receive, however at least you know what the cause of everything is. While I've never experienced anything on this magnitude of life-changing, I can say for certain that knowing what's wrong is far more relieving than not knowing what's right or wrong.

The first thing I want to say here is that the comments from friends means more than I can put into words.
I mean that, it truly helps.
Just came back from the "Meet and greet" with the Oncology Dr.
He impressed me, he listened and when I told him how weak I've been prescribed a mild steroid. He said that should help in that area

I have been monitoring PSAs routinely for the past 13 years and am confident that I have positively impacted a number of individuals by doing so. At the very least, I think that primary care physicians should at least have a discussion with patients and let them be an active participant in their health care. The information is not harmful, it is what is potentially done with that information that is relevant. And we have specialists in order to help people deal with that information.

When talking to someone that we know has a chronic life-threatening disease, most of us avoid talking about the issue for fear of upsetting the sufferer, either by reminding them of their condition or by saying the wrong thing. By starting this thread, you've got us over the first hurdle, and I hope that neither I or anyone slse says something that upsets you - well, not much, anyway.

Prostate cancer runs in my Dad's side of the family, so I've learnt a bit about it. It's also the cancer that affects or has affected more people I know than has any other cancer. 4 of them including my "baby" 61-yo brother, have had RP surgery. 3 of those are clear of the cancer, tho at about 1 year later for 2 of them it's a bit soon to tell. The cancer came back in the 4th guy but he's still alive after about 10 years, tho he's had a rough time at various stages. And I know 2 others who were diagnosed too late for surgery. They're both still going some years later. They've been very sick sometimes, but have had good periods too. Bottom line is that with therapeutic intervention it's usually a slow-growing cancer, so you should be around to see that beastie machine you've built climb up through the crunching rankings.

I've had a rough year healthwise over the last 12 months too. Someone informed me that "65 is the age when the warranty on your body runs out" (I'm 66 now). You've still got a few years to run on yours, young fella, so you might try getting an RMA from your makers if they're still in business. OTOH they may not be able to do a replacement nowadays, so you'll just have to accept a really good hug.

Some people keep things to themselves but I've always believed in 'get it out" and say what you feel.
This situation sucks but it is what it is.
I'm doing what I can do, seeing the Dr's I'm supposed to and so far they all seem excellent and caring people.
The pain is the biggest issue. Haven't slept more than 2.5 hours in weeks except for one night.
The drugs are another concern as I never took any pills my whole life and I mean none.
They also vary. Woke up at 3:30am today and right knee was killing me, pills didn't help and that was 2 vicoden and a steroid pill.
Hot bath, big bowl of cheerios to take my mind off the pain and that helped a bit.
Last, the friendships and comments help more than you know.
More Dr's visits later this am.
This has become my new life.. Dr, follow-up, Dr, follow-up, rinse and repeat!

Have known many folks to kick cancers ass. I know you have to testicle fortitude to do more than kick its ass, but send it far away. With today's technology, your chances are very strong to beat it. The road will be all up hill, rough, full of pot holes but we know your determination can do it. You have many friends here that are willing to help. Don't hesitate to make that call for help. Today met with the cardiologist and the financial person from the hospital;
Heart is the same, ok, and getting help from the hospital's private fund for the costs.
HUGE money involved here and I already have over $250,000.00 before this deal from the heart last year.

It has been a long time since I checked in on XS, and to read this news and to know that my good friend Dave has gone to the Crunching Team in the Sky, truly saddens my heart. Dave was more than just a friend, he was a brother to me and helped me in so many ways. His good nature and kind heart touched so many people around the world, bringing a smile to all that met him.
