    Challenge: Scores Updated Hourly

Everyone can find the overall and project by project scores which are updated hourly by going to:

    http://www.seti-germany.de/wcg/stats...oj=WCG&lang=en

At first update we got #1 overall

Those charts ... there's something very odd about them.

Very odd. We (and other teams too) are getting negative points.

    Hmmpf.

I uploaded my cached work after the stats run on the 16th, over 96000 WCG worth, only to find that WCG are counting it the NEXT stats run.

The stats linked in the top post appear to be taken from the stats run that I anticipated would be the beginning while WCG seem to be taking them from the run after.

Day two and we begin to see if we are out-gunned or if, with the gamesmanship out of the way, we can creep back to the top.

so far the scores look very similar between teams

Brought six more cores online today. I should be able to run them for the challenge but that's it.

Yesterday it looked all fine. We were closing in on Seti-Germany on every update. But Yesterday evening they made a big jump in one update. Most hourly scores were 300-350k but the big one was 1.7 million.

I hope they stop doing that.

Put my boy's 3770K on this too but it seems flakey.... passes memtest overnight, passes LinX *50 passes no problem but came home to a rig that had shut down ????

set to never sleep and blank screen after 15m..... What have I missed ??

Did it shut down of did it sleep/hibernate? If the latter there might be something else in the OS power settings. If the former there could be a shutdown time set in the BIOS or task scheduler. Alternatively, make sure there wasn't someone involved pressing the button.

pressing a key did not wake it. Nobody at home to press anything. Will go through the other power settings...

    Meanwhile

Linux Mint: just downloaded new boinc to boinc made executable, ran, changed into BOINC, copied into /usr/bin/

rig does not connect to client.

copied the projects file from var/lib/boinc-cllient and put it in the BOINC file created above by going su.

both instances of the projects file are locked.

    How to unlock ?

Running from the BOINC file starts but invites me to add project.

The changeover from old boinc running to new to old again worked fine on those rigs where I was running from the BOINC folder but failed where I had originally downloaded from the repository then upgraded using the DA guide

Look in the boinc data folder for a file called "lockfile". If it's still there when the client isn't running, delete it. I THINK that should take care of the client not being able to use that data folder.

As for changing client versions, if you go back too far they store the data in different formats and the older client can hose data from the newer one. I wouldn't have expected that to be a problem with everything v7 plus though and thought it was only a problem with v6 clients.

For the ones running from your home directory, make them owned by your user. For the ones from the repository they need to be owned by either root or boinc, I'm not sure which.

edit: Ok, just looked. Almost everything in the /var/lib/boinc-client directory is owned by user and group boinc with the exceptions of the links to the config files in the /etc/boinc-client directory. If those ownerships were changed for moving etc then they'll need to be changed back.

All now running but individual files, within the folder containing new work, that are done and zipped are also locked and not seen by manager

Is there a batch unlock or a way to be root from the graphical interface in order to change these ??

Depending on the desktop interface you can often open a given folder as root with the file manager. I tend to do it from the command line though but exactly how will depend on exactly what I'm trying to change.
Are the locked files owned by the right user or is it something else?

permissions states "boinc-BOINC core-client" but this is likely as given when running in standard download mode.

I have suspended network and am waiting on current wu's to complete..... just to see how those end up in the file system and what ownership is shown once ready to upload.

bed now though or I am bound to mess up something even more

    Well, for later then:

This is what I'd expect to see on a machine with BOINC installed from the repositories:
    Code:

Do we want to consider the individual projects ??

    http://www.seti-germany.de/wcg/stats...j=CEP2&lang=en

    http://www.seti-germany.de/wcg/stats...j=FAAH&lang=en

    http://www.seti-germany.de/wcg/stats...j=MCM1&lang=en

    http://www.seti-germany.de/wcg/stats...j=UGM1&lang=en

I think UGM is probably a lost cause unless Seti G have a master plan to all jump to another project

I am now running CEP2 (64 threads), not enough ram to do more..... and FAHV (64 threads)

If I were to drop CEP2 I could gain maybe 70K points but CEP is already borderline

    OC,

Certainly look like SETI Germany pre-loaded this event with a huge UGM Backup. They have a good battle plan and good communications so they will shift some of their crunching resources to other WCG projects.

What we really need here is an extra 120 to 150 cores crunchinjg for our XS Team ASAP. We need to generate an extra 600,000 to 700,000 daily WCG points if we want to challenge for first place..

I am going to get a laptop with 8 cores going. Hopefully other XS WCG members can do something similar. Let us aim for 150 more active cores minimum crunching for our Team.

I added another 4 cores last night. That is all I could put together with the spare parts that I had.
It is not much, but every thing helps.

At the moment I have all 4 rigs crunching fahv on Linux as that gives me the most points. But I could switch to an other project if needed.

That's the XS team spirit ROB_B If anybody else can add cores please post here so that we can track the added resources.

I will try to get "Fugger" to put up an XS website message asking all XS members and visitors to join us for this 10th Anniversary challenge. I will also ask our Team Captain to send an email or PM to all members of the XS WCG team requesting them to boost production, if at all possible, or join us if they're not in for this 10th Anniversary Challenge already. It is high time to bring in our reserve and new volunteers to make a breakthrough in this competition.

Added resources thus far: 12 cores

Good news and Bad News XS cruncherS,

Good news: The XS Team has increased its daily WCG production and is now gaining on the presently #1 rank Team - SETI Germany

Bad News: Our present overtake will require 188 hours or 7.8 days to overtake the SETI - Germany Team. There is only 5.5 days of competition left so we truly need to increase our overtake to win this thing.

Let us get XTREME and fire up the hydrazine boosters on all of our crunchers. Lets also get friends & relatives to join in. If we all contribute a little bit more, we will prevail and win this 10th Anniversary WCG Challenge.

    GO EXTREME GO....
