    RAM settings for my 8350

    Can anyone more knowledgeable than me help me out here. I'm not 100% sure on the RAM settings for my FX build. TBH the UEFI is new to me and a little confusing lol.

    I'm running an FX8350, currently at stock 4Ghz. (I'm on a decent water setup, so OC is an option for later).

    Anyway, I bought fairly good RAM, Patriot Venom PC3-19200 C10 (2400Mhz), and that's where I need advice. CPU-Z reports the RAM running at 802.7Mhz. Am I right in assuming that doubles to give 1600Mhz?
    What should I be running it at? What's optimum for the 8350? Or should I just max it to 2400?

    The mobo is Asus Crosshair V Formula Z, and RAM is 16Gb in 4 sticks of 4Gb.

    You can try to get it to run at 2400 but you'll need to up the NB to 2400 and Also Add voltage to the CPU_NB probably 1.3v or more for that much ram. Personally I find the "sweet" spot to be 1800 - 2000 I find I get slightly better bandwidth at the higher speed but it's a lot harder to get stable. The AMDs still prefer low speed tight timings IMO. So I would try for 1866 9-10-9 and work down from there if you can.

    Thanks. So I had a quick experiment in the UEFI and I now have the RAM running at 1866...well CPU-Z says 936.5.
    I tried it at 2400 and the PC failed to boot, so I backed it down to 1866 and seems OK so far.
    I haven't messed with the timings as I'm not 100% confident in what I'm doing with that, but when I set it to 1866, the timings now read as:
    FSB : DRAM = 3:14
    CL = 9.0
    tRCD = 11
    tRP = 11
    tRAS = 28
    tRC = 45

    Should I try to manually change it to 9-10-9 like you suggested? Is there much to be gained there?

    That really depends on what you are doing. If you're gaming or just general use it won't make a huge difference but benchmarking or even heavy video work it'll save you some time. If the PC gets unstable when you change settings there are two things that will help . First you can up the ram voltage a bit at a time up to 1.7v if you have decent air movement or a fan blowing on them. The other is the CPU_NB voltage which will help the CPUs IMC deal with the added input. The NB speed will also aid in performance 24-2600 is attainable with most FX CPUs but will also require some added voltage to the CPU_NB. This will really aid in latency.

    these motherboards have the profiles option....set D.O.C.P in the UEFI and it will set your ram to everything.

    also set yur CPU/NB volts to about anywhere from 1.25v-1.3v

    and give yur memory a little bit more volts, maybe 1.675v
