    X79 Extreme9 or GD65 8D for 4960X?

    Hey guys,

I'am about to get my 4960X and I have two mobo's I can choose.

    Asrock Extreme9 and MSI GD65 (8D)

Which one is better for this CPU and why? I will use the rig for gaming and video editing. The CPU will be watercooled with custom waterloop. GPU is EVGA 780 Ti Classy Kingpin (atm on air). Thing is, the X79 Extreme9 has two CPU VRM connectors (2x 8pin), MSI's has only one 8pin and my power supply has only one 8pin with extension as 8+4 on single rail. Question: Is the second 8pin really needed for Extreme9 or will be it just fine with one? I couldn't find anything about that in user manual.

Also GD65 8D choice will save me about 150 bucks so question is, does Extreme9 really worth it?

Thank you for pros and cons smile.gif

    Regards, Mike

I would save the $150 and go with the MSI.

Extreme9 has better power, but may be overkill for your needs.

You are on a water loop so the MSI will be the same ball park for performance. If the Extreme9 is a Nick Shih board then it should have really good memory overclocking functionality.
